I subscribed to the thread initially to be kept informed of actual problems that merit replacement discs. Now I receive very regular emails, with messages discussing how a dozen or so new titles have been added, all because someone has asserted that these titles are "poor" because you can find some extra macroblocks on a 400% zoomed-in screenshot than a UK or DE release of the film. The list is thus no longer useful and has actually become an annoyance. So when someone says "With all these defects, why do people still give them money?", that prompts my answer of "These are not significant defects, these are nitpicks from pedants." People still give Shout money because they release a ton of interesting titles, most at acceptable or good quality, and they usually fix actually significant problems that truly require a replacement disc. Sometimes they really do drop the ball, like the Billy Jack release, but I don't see how such actual ball-dropping even stands out anymore in a silly list with entry after entry of so-called "poor compression." As long as you're aware then I'm good. Anyone else is welcome to maintain these threads. but no one ever volunteers in case you were wondering. In other words, don't look a gift-horse in the mouth.

I haven't had much time recently to dig through any real or perceived technical issues. I get a lot of requests to put titles on the list because of certain releases not catering to people's personal tastes, which I'm not going to do because it defeats the purpose of the thread where the intention is to bring attention to actual errors that affect certain discs, not to lambaste a perfectly fine disc since someone has an issue with the colors because they don't match a previous release or because an audio track that was never advertised isn't included. The issues people are having with recent SF releases are ones that I don't own so I can't see for myself whether there is an issue or not, so in that case the best solution would be to PM me the title affected and explain what's wrong with it along with some evidence to back up the claim to prevent the spreading of misinformation which is abundant on this site. |

Several people have reported in the Village of the Damned thread that there is an echo / flanging effect with the audio at certain points (others say all throughout) in the 5.1 soundtrack. The 2.0 track appears to be unaffected.

I picked up The Babadook blu ray and I'm shocked I haven't seen anything mentioned about this (not to mention all of the near perfect audio scores on the reviews) but the 5.1 track has a bad reverb echo effect throughout the film. Most prominent in the background sounds. I had to switch to the 2.0 track it was so bad.

After closer inspection it's hard to tell if the same thing is happening on the 2.0 track (definitely less prominent though) and may be source related. Something sounds "off" with the audio though. It's not on netflix streaming anymore so I can't compare the audio with it from that version unfortunately. There's an "open echo" sound with the sound effects like they're happening in a giant empty room.

Lost Continent is apparently missing some frames; it relates to a memorable part of the film, so their absence was immediately apparent to a fan of a film. Shout has already confirmed on Facebook that a replacement disc is being created.
