If anything, THX retains a movie’s integrity. No messing up with NR, aspect ratip and/or sound mix.

I would take some grain reduction because some of these 4K HDR releases are abysmal, so much noise and grain makes them unwatchable.

Which ones are those that you think are unwatchable? You do realize that grain is a natural occurrence when using real film stock. It actually contains some of the film's texture.

There's only one abysmal and unwatchable UHD and that is Terminator 2.

Rambo 2? Wut? It's got some lovely fine grain on that and quite a soft image in general owing to the diffused photography, the problem is the terribad compression.

Rubbish how? Do you know a single movie where THX certification process changed the theatrical presentation by applying DNR? Changing sound mix? Changing movie’s AR? You really don’t know what you’re talking about.

"If anything, THX retains a movie’s integrity"

Thinking about this makes me cringe. Maybe THX was something good sometimes before time but now...

Besides, that’s from the time when DVD did not have anamorphic encoded. It was the best quality the movie ever was AT THE TIME.

exactly. We're finally at the point where we are getting practically the exact version of a film at home that we saw in the theater. DVD was not even close.

I beg to differ. At the time of the popularity of DVD, Hollywood was using high speed generated 35mm prints whose on-screen resolution was about the same as an anamorphic DVD.

Yes, a ton on LD had DVNR, sound mix? Yep tons went under their program and had remixes and nearly all of them had near field mixes on all formats.
You cannot see pass your fanboying to know anything bar a press release.

Dvd supported anamorphic from day one...

Did I mention that the DVD format didn’t support anamorphic? I’m saying that in the beginning DVD was not encoded with anamorphic especially because so many players at the time can’t scale anamorphic DVD to regular letterbox (for 4:3 CRT presentation) without added artifacts.

Maybe THX should have sorted that for their 75k?

Did THX dvd's cost more than other new release DVD's? I honestly don't remember.

Here are the first 15 movies released on DVD in the USA:

A Time to Kill
Blade Runner
Eraser
Goodfellas
Interview with the Vampire
The Road Warrior
Se7en
The Birdcage
The Bridges of Madison County
The Fugitive
The Mask
The Wizard of Oz
Twister
Unforgiven
Woodstock

Would you like to take a guess how many of them were "enhanced for widescreen TVs"/anamorphic?
