Default Dark Knight ?? No black bars for 1st scene then after it has the bars

I am currently watching The Dark Knight and for the 1st time realized that after the 1st bank robbery scene the black bars on the top and bottom appeared. Why would there be no black bars for the 1st scene and then they appear. What gives?

Did you even watch the movie all the way though before posting this? If you didn't get a clue from all the IMAX stuff in the press releases, the specs are on the back of the case.

Perhaps the OP should had been more informed before make this thread, but it's crazy that a film have more than one format.

You know, as much as questions like these make me roll my eyes, if someone doesn't know as much as you, it really doesn't give you the right to slam them for being 'not as informed' . You know - the guy (or girl) had a question. Lots of folks don't even know that the Search function exists, and even though it DOES, it doesn't always return many usable threads - so how can you expect a perfect result in an imperfect world?

Help out whomever asks you for it - without chiding them for not being as oh-so-enlightened as you. Just a thought.

Cheers, Doc.

wow thangs for being a DI**! I just was curious and gave up on using the search function on this forum as it sucks. Every other forum has at least a decent search function, but this one I can never get to show up anything. I never thought the disc was defective. I was just curious as to why it switched back and forth as I prefer obviously not having the black bars. as I said before the mods can feel free to close this as i got my answer and before more DI**S post their ignorance

I know you are a noob trying to sound like a know it all

jeez guys give the kid a break. it's not like he was trying to purposely piss people off by asking the question

OP: the search function in this forum does not suck, you just may need some tips on how to use it so it is most efficient

Why would that be obvious? I'd rather just watch the movie in whatever aspect ratio it was originally filmed in.

man, i have been a member of this forum for a very long time now and I have to say I am really unhappy with where it has gone, and more importantly, where it is headed. All these "new" members who sit behind their computer screens just waiting for an opportunity to insult, degrade, chastise, ridicule, etc etc. You get the point. It must make you people feel very good about yourselves to be so much more intelligent and important than the rest of us. This is a blu-ray FORUM. A place for people to go and discuss ALL things blu-ray. NOBODY should ever feel like they can't come here to ask a question. This site should be an asset for us. I find it very disturbing the direction some of these threads take.
I hope that the OP found the answer to his question and I hope that if he ever has another question he won't hesitate to ask inside the forum.

100% agreed. Do we really need a 2 page thread of people making fun of someone else for asking a somewhat valid question; however, I realize many of you guys are joking with/hazing the new guy. I would have been in the same situation had I not been reading this forum before I watched TDK for the first time. Google would most likely have answered the OPs question, but that doesn't explain the unnecessary comments. Where are the mods to lock this thead?

Why bash the OP ? There must be thousands of buyers who don't read these boards, or aren't tech savvy when it comes to blu but do love the best PQ a domestic disc can afford, who must be scratching their heads about the changing ratio.

It's Nolan who should be blamed, also because the PQ on DK is second rate and absolutely not demo except for the Imax scenes, but that is a debate for another thread.

Ya I don't care what aspect ratio, and will never stretch or h-fill, but I like having it fill the entire 50".

haha not sure if you all are saying I wont post again or the di**. I will always post on this forum. I have been a member for over a yr and generally like the expierence here. I find it easier most of the time to ask the experts here as the majority of people are not di**s. Plus the questions usually get answered very quickly. I guess I should spend more time in the movie section. lol as I mostly go in the hot deals and ps3.

And thanks to those that answered my question

You didn't understand nothing about I was trying to say, o perhaps (the most probable), I expressed myself badly (the English is not my mother tonge).
Precisely I was trying to excuse the OP because the absurdity that a film had more than one format. Nothing more. Sorry.

some people arent on this forum everyday and dont see these daily threads play out, instead of causing an issue why not direct him in the right direction, not a one of you bothered to direct him where to look, rather too a defensive posture and pounding him in the ground for asking a question he had no knowledge of. Every question should be treated like a valid question and the bombardment of insults needs to stop.

I agree and this needs to stop or vacations and lifelong cruises to nowhere will be offered as prizes I hate to do that because some people feel I am too strict or as one said, abusing my power but we all need to be responsible for our actions as our new members learn from the older members as to what they post. If theres nothing positive to add dont post!!!

Aspect ratio......

This thread here is exactly how this should have played out

Variable 2.40:1 just means its switches from the 1.78:1 to the 2.40:1 and back. Your hardware is perfectly fine its just the way Nolan wanted it to be seen.
Heres a great thread on aspect ratios
