Now there's a title long overdue a BD release. Cool little film.

Somewhat, more worried to buy well known studio films.

No, I'm skipping 4k and waiting for 8k.

Bette Davis fans (myself included) are rejoicing. Criterion and WAC releasing Jezebel, The Letter, Now, Voyager and hopefully an improved All About Eve is welcome news.

Maybe now Barbara Stanwyck can get some love. I truly hope Criterion’s release of Forty Guns is just the beginning. Stella Dallas, Baby Face, Ball of Fire, and an upgrade to The Lady Eve would be fantastic. Other films like The Strange Love of Martha Ivers and The Bitter Tea of General Yenl ( MoD? Really, Sony) needs an improved release desperately. Missy could do it all, and her work is woefully underrepresented on blu-Ray. Here’s hoping the studios will, at long last, give fans a catalogue worthy of her immense talent.

Based on the Home Theater Forum's podcast interview with Lee Kline, I wouldn't be expecting The Lady Eve anytime soon as the elements are not up to snuff.

Sorry Wrong Number is the Stanwyk film I really want, but it’s in Paramount hell.

Not at all. If I ever get into 4K, it will only be for a select few films I consider to be my favorites (so I would only purchase maybe 20-30 releases at the most). I'm perfectly happy with good ol' fashioned 1080P.

I am still holding out hope for a Capra/Stanwyck boxset from Indicator given their access to the Columbia/Sony catalogue: The Miracle Worker, The Bitter Tea Of General Yen, Ladies Of Leisure and Forbidden (Meet John Doe is not Columbia/Sony unfortunately).

. I guess the version that hit theaters earlier this year in the UK wasn't a new restoration then.

I'm really hoping a UK label like Indicator will come to the rescue with The Bitter Tea of General Yen.

I was wondering about this... I remember thinking during the interview, "I could've sworn I heard about a restoration making theatrical rounds in the past year or so..." And IIRC it played at reputable theaters that wouldn't be likely to show something in SD.

Are there any sources on the Fox blu for 'All About Eve' being sourced from a 4K restoration. Can't find any info on that.

I think it was released in early 2011, and the criterion says new 4k restoration so I’m thinking the fox disc wasn’t. I don’t think 4K restorations was a thing yet in 2010 when bluray was only a few years out. I’m not a 4k history expert though so someone may know better

The press release on this site and Criterion's product page make no mention of new 4K restoration; just "4K digital restoration". 4K scans/restorations have been a thing since at least 1993 (with Disney's "Snow White" being the first film ever scanned for 4K resolution).

You’re right I misspoke about it being new. I guess we’ll have to see the dvd beaver comparisons. This may just be a release for people who don’t own it yet and who love dick Cavett interviews to pick up

I keep hearing about Paramount and how it is in a hell of its own. What exactly is going on?

All About Eve seems like a similar situation to Dr Strangelove, where the main difference is in the extras. Criterion's unique extras aren't exhaustive, and not really justification enough for their own release, but who knows what kind of dealings Fox and Criterion came to for this, and others. Perhaps it's just part of a bigger package deal.

I'm so with you on Barbara Stanwyck. I would love to see more of her in the collection, she deserves some great blu-rays. I'm thrilled with how many of her pre-codes they have up on the Criterion Channel. I'm having a grand time making my way through them all.
