no joy?, then I’ll try to do it if we get back in time from dinner this evening, based on your last post - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=10552

I figure, as of this time (~ 6’oclock-ish PST), we’re averaging 13,697 views/day for this thread
new record high?

Penton, now that you just mentioned ... I have no clue if I would be remembering in one hour from now.
But it should be close to this anyway: 3,340,926 views

3,341,446 views @ 9:00 PM

For the month of August: 426,018 views

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=10552

3,341,446 minus 2,915,428 = 426,018

426,018 ÷ 31 days = 13,742.516129 views average per day.

Reason 2, "60 fps is the only format that syncs with all of your screens", is a full 10 years out of date! Most screens can accept a 24Hz input signal perfectly fine now. If it can't, it should not be being sold! So that "reason" can be scrubbed. Ridiculous to include it.
Reason 5, "60 fps makes you part of the scene", is actually a reason AGAINST using 60fps for movies! As they confess:
Quote:
By a large part, the reason is simple conditioning, but there’s another important part at play: Cineasts complained that the movies felt too real, thus making them part of the New Zealand set, as opposed to part of the current scene. And it’s true – while I have tremendous respect for Peter Jackson and his fearless push into the future, The Hobbit might not have been the best use-case. At least until we develop better ways of reestablishing the dream-like quality of 24p-motion-blurry movies with higher frame rates.
I say it's not "simple" conditioning, it's a full lifetime's conditioning, which is fundamental to the dream-like "look" of 24fps movies. Anything with a frame rate that's too high looks like rehearsal footage on a set, and there's just no getting away from that.

The low framerate lends movies an impressionistic, dreamlike feel which in a strange way preserves suspension of disbelief.
He says that it's a "strange" way. Strange or not, that is what happens. As soon as you have a higher framerate, that dream-like world is gone, and bang, you're taken out of the movie.

The language of cinema is a very fragile thing, built up over many years. We are not taken out of the film when we hear a full orchestra playing despite being at the bottom of the ocean or in outer space. But we are instantly taken out of the film when we see higher frame-rates. Our eyes are very very sensitive to it. I can't see this changing any time soon because it's so fragile. And my desire not to be taken out of the film, massively outweighs any desire to reduce judder with bright HDR pans (which at some point, will also take me out of the film!).

The PM, forgetting to hit the ATM and running late for his Beverly Hills HDR party, checks his couch cushions for any spare change.

I’ve used that same argument for myself in the past. Thing is though we have a new generation (Z?) who have grown up watching movies and other content with their TVs not in filmmaker mode for which they have been able to immerse themselves in without complaint…..which judgmental movie traditionalists may label as blissful ignorance, on the other hand, more open minded folks (including some older folks) may think of it simply as ‘different strokes for different folks’.

If the storytelling and acting had been better, I would have loved to have seen the results of a focus group of say < 21 year-olds on questions relating to whether they could escape from reality into the movie world with the 48fps presentation of this movie - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1021867...ef_=tt_dt_spec
regardless of the appearance of the ‘cinematography’.

Fact is mrtickle, you and many of us feel that way because we’re biased by years of conditioning, not because 24fps is better. People can become conditioned to like anything, e.g. the Stockholm syndrome.

Numbers are just fun to play with; how much money do we have, how many years are we going to live until we reach the heavens, how many hurricanes, how many forest fires, how many mass shootings, how many drug busts, how many Hollywood Marvel films, how long till Disney buy Amazon and Google, how many nits for optimal HDR, how many frames per second is best for films, how many feet across the screen for best angle immersion, how many feet from that screen, how many cars, mansions, pairs of shoes, pets, children, grandchildren, bathrooms, windows, watts per channel, how many Atmos speakers, how many subwoofers, how many music recordings (LPs and CDs), how many Blu-rays, DVDs, 3D Blu-rays, 4K Blu-rays, how many seats in our home theaters, how many people on the planet (7.7 billion).

It's not what we have and how many, it's who we are and how we do.
...Something like that where everyone's happy enough.

Just gonna fix one thing you said there,

‘How long till Disney buy Sony (and Spider-Man)’

Note for PM, evidently ship Wi-Fi is not too good with pics, so might not be able to post any ‘til I get home.

And in case any of their kids hopped on the ride for August, as a token of appreciation I’ll link a connection for a birthday present or perhaps Christmas present for their Dads -

There certainly are differing opinions, for instance [from a former Director on the Board of the BDA (http://www.blu-raydisc.com/en/Associ...structure.aspx ) and current Manager of software standards at a very well-known Fortune 100 company], this in response to the filmmaker mode -

“we all experience the world in judder 24fps. It is awful. Why are they so focused on spatial resolution and ignore temporal? If they don’t want us fixing their mistakes, shoot at a reasonable frame rate that the eye doesn’t perceive as judder.”
