The horror community is one of the friendliest fandoms I've ever been a part while others have ranged from problematic to downright toxic. Just because you love horror films that doesn't mean you're a sociopath.

Horror films are fantasy, and well adjusted adults can tell the difference between fantasy and reality. There's a big difference in watching a zombie eat characters in a movie and making light of a recent tragedy where real people died as a social media marketing ploy.

Adults can also find something distasteful and off-putting without being "outraged."

i'm curious to know what's the right and wrong way to express outrage over what dave chose to do. how do you meter it? what scale are you using to determine that exact moment when it crosses from genuine empathy toward the loss of life and anger over someone exploiting it versus those who wish to show outrage for the sake of it?

I can't help but feel that people who get upset over "outrage culture" are projecting their own anger/frustration at other people disagreeing with them.

Maybe channeling your outrage into getting Congressmen to change gun laws to stop mass shootings would be a better idea than crucifying a Blu-ray label for making what some thought was a tacky comment. That changes nothing but if it makes you feel like you’re some keyboard warrior to take your manufactured rage out on someone who had nothing to do with the shooting then I guess have at it. It just makes you and others look like lazy activists who misdirect their anger.

I’m done talking about this. Everyone knows my stance and further conversation isn’t going to change that stance. Feel free to call me mentally ill or dense all you want if it makes you feel better about not knowing who to blame for a mass shooting.

We all know who to blame for a mass shooting man. We're talking about someone who made a very tasteless joke about it and you getting upset about people getting upset about it. It's not rocket science here.

Don't feed the troll.

I've never seen a company (or person) actively work so hard to not get my money. From the typically closed store, to the random times things go up for order, to the overpriced limited editions, to the shady masters/possible upscales, to the weird glow in the dark gimmicks, to the absolutely terrible internet presence - and that's without even taking into consideration the most recent social media idiocy.

I had some interest in Breeders, Dead Pit, and the GoH double feature, but just trying to buy any of these were challenging. And by the time Breeders and the double feature became available as standard editions with reasonable prices, the word was out that they were not great releases.

But I'm like "Hey, I've been digging some Joe D'Amato weirdness lately, maybe I'll get Ator. Maybe if the packaging looks good, I'll even get the silly limited edition".

And then all of this Facebook madness occurs.

To be clear, it's not just this terribly thought out Facebook promotional tactic that is going to ensure I never give DF any money - The Facebook thing is just the cherry on top of the shit sundae that is the Dark Force experience.

And if he had come back and gave a legitimate apology, like...
"I was up late at night and found this amusing. In reflecting on this, I realize this was a very poor idea of a joke on my part and I should have never posted it. I apologize for making such a poor decision and plan to avoid exploiting real life tragedy for promotional purposes in the future."
...I'd have a very different outlook on the situation.

In reality, he's just continuing to play games like an adolescent and turning the narrative into some sort of "SNOWFLAKES DON'T WANT YOU TO SEE MOVIES SORRY!" situation. It's childish and unprofessional. And it's just the latest in a series of antics that paint the picture of someone who values playing games over running a successful business.

You know, people can channel their outrage and get in touch with their Congressman to express their desire for laws to be enacted that will put an end to mass shootings...

AND

...take 30 seconds to voice their disapproval over a tacky comment made in the wake of one of those mass shootings.

No one is blaming him for mass shootings, any more that I would blame someone who made an insensitive joke at a funeral for causing cancer, or myocardial infarctions, or auto accidents, etc.

Funny that you’re outraged over people being outraged, but seem totally fine with the tasteless marketing attempt made by Dark Force in the wake of a mass shooting. You’re more upset at people being upset over Dark Force’s terrible behavior than the terrible behavior itself. That’s extremely telling.

The rest of the film doesn't have quite the same amount of heavy "damage" but it's a good-looking print with moderate scratches and "lighter" (but not fake-looing) green lines. I owned a VHS copy of GoH during the early 90's that had the worst PQ I've ever seen for any film but I kind of liked it. Scratches and damage up the wazoo so this "grindhouse"-y edition here brings back some happy memories. I'm not sorry I bought this.

Was Psycho From Texas a TV movie? The opening credits made it look like one. Had the same type of intro as a TV show lol
Older film prints are always more beat up in the first part of reel one because that section gets handled the most by projectionists.

This times 1,000,000.

He's been screwing with folks since day 1.
Between keeping his store closed most of the time, the high priced bundles forcing folks to buy stuff they don't want, the potential relationship between him and a raft of eBay scalpers, those sad live-streams where Bill wasn't doing well and was looking really exploited, threatening to fight/kill/mutilate people in a variety of internet forums for a variety of reasons, and everything else that brevity prevents me from listing - this lastest promotional gimmick is just another low point for a company/person with an awful lot of low points.

Is the backlash justified? Yep.
Is it long overdue? You better believe it.

Maybe he should go back to playing hair-metal. I hear there's a Ramada with a nice lounge out there somewhere.

and the poster still didn't answer the question anyway. he answered as if i asked, "what can we do?" versus being able to talk what real outrage is versus "manufactured outrage," since the only commonality is that he is seeing comments on the internet. that's all he knows, and that's what's being taken at face value.

but, as he (wisely) said, i'm not up to entertaining this debate anymore.

when does walt's release of the gates of hell come out?

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

We’ve seen this behavior for a while now, and DF kept pushing the needle further and further until even the casual passerby couldn’t ignore their alienating antics. Yes, a small vocal minority used the this as an excuse to troll, but most of the comments here and on FB are simply customers expressing disapproval. That’s not “outrage” or a “troll infestation.”

As of August 9th, Walt had gotten the new 4K scan from Italy and color correction and restoration were just beginning. He also said that extras were still being worked on. No time frame, though.
