Actually, my preference would have been to get number 1969; now that would have been cool. Instead, I ended up with 4127.

I actually think this looks pretty good. The "B" grade from thedigitalbits.com for the video seems reasonable IMO. Could it be better? Sure. But I think most fans will be ok with it.

Completely clueless? What on earth are viewing in your BD set of Scooby Doo that is so profoundly different than what the rest of us are seeing?

http://thedigitalbits.com/item/scoob...boxset-2019-bd

from the review:

"That said, Scooby-Doo: Where Are You? makes the leap to high definition looking quite good, great even. Presented full frame to preserve its original aspect ratio, it’s now much clearer and sharper, while still carrying those inherent aforementioned visual flaws. The color palette is often bold, particularly the clothing on the main characters, but also on many foreground and background items. It’s also wonderfully-textured with surprising depth as every last bit of detail has been left intact. Character edges are also solid without the need for artificial sharpening. Noise is prevalent from time to time, including what some might describe as “mosquito noise,” but it appears natural to the material. It’s also worth mentioning that despite a low encode, which hovers around 10.0 to 11.0 Mbps for the majority of each episode, no obvious compression artifacts could be spotted either. To be succinct, the show has never looked better."

Video Grade-B+

So, no obvious compression artifacts like I stated earlier, and another glowing review.

So you disagree with expert reviewers with a trained eye that would detect, and expose any unnatural look such as excessive DNR?

Please clue me in because I find this more strange the longer it goes on.

When I first saw the screenshots from the Blu-ray set I was confused, having already watched the show on amazon streaming, so I had prior expectations.

Just because a reviewer doesn't see compression artifacts or excessive dnr doesn't mean a Blu-ray is faithful to the source - ideally one would hope for as near to transparency with the source with the Blu-ray encode as possible.

Some of us had prior expectations to how the show should look on Blu-ray, so despite the Blu-ray being the best the show has ever looked on physical media, it can still be disappointing.

No compression artifacts and no overt DNR does not necessarily correlate with a competent encode.

Don't forget - "expert reviewers" can (and do!) miss obvious errors on discs that fans on the forums post about. I'm not going to go in to the variety of reasons this can happen, but it most definitely happens.

If you are happy with the set, that is great, we can't all be so fortunate though

Which episode are you referring to, because I have watched a total of 8 episodes, and have not noticed any motion issues.

It’s not a motion issue, good lord. The DNR just looks crappy both in general and in motion. I don’t care whether you can see it or not.

Two factors I am most critical of when judging the video image of a BD are Excessive DNR, or bad color timing. Both are unforgiveable. Both cannot be undone, and it is best to just hope for a new release because it won't get any better.
An artificial, or unnatural look to an image is an instant deal breaker for me period.

When I first saw the screen cap of Scooby Doo, I feared the worst with my order already on the way. And I was delighted to find that the DNR was applied very minimally. The grain, and original artwork has not been "scrubbed clean". Instead it is a bold, and vibrant video presentation that won me over, and I'm glad the very positive reviews of the set mirror my feelings about it.

I'm sorry you feel this set is not up to your standards.
I will say that like Bill Hunt, Tim Salmons is certainly an "Expert" with a trained eye for calling out poor, artificial looking video quality. If the DNR were an issue he would have called it out in his review, and graded it accordingly.

I think the packaging is weird. My set had a ding to the side of the roof of the mansion, and the hard plastic case also had some dents.

Is it safe to assume there'll be a version with standard packaging in the near future?

There's no doubt about it. Just a matter of when.

Yeah, I'm sure there will be a standard package release. If not in the US, then certainly somewhere overseas. That's what I'm waiting for, unless the current set gets a significant discount somewhere.

I rest my case; you either are completely clueless and or putting on a front. This has been talked about pages on end with images shown. You've thrown every argumentative fallacy in the book at every bit of it and honestly? It was funny at first but now it's getting old. Unplug and go outside.

Appeal to authority alert! Choo choo! "Professional reviewers" also fail to point out many issues with hiss-reduced, detail-missing, dynamically-squashed audio. Their words are infallible though because muh professional reviewer status right? You wanna talk about trained eyes? Some of these reviewers (and you) need to get training because we're clearly seeing something different and it's not me.

It's been said over and over in the thread. I'm not doing anymore work that I already have for a silly little man like you who's going to move goalposts over and over. The answer is to purchase the set if you don't care how it looks. The end.

Yes we get it, you're insecure with your purchase and want to reassure yourself your money was well spent, shhhh

This is the problem in America. People who disagree on something are not satisfied until everyone else agrees with them, and if they refuse to do so, they resort to insults and disrespecting each other.

Whatever happened to disagreeing without being disagreeable? Why must people be so RUDE to another just because they disagree?

If you're not happy with the transfer, then DON'T BUY IT! Launch whatever protest you want against the company.

If you DO like the transfer, then buy it and ENJOY IT!

Stop trying to insult and put people down just because they don't see the same thing you do.

Everyone has a right to their OWN opinion. Some stink, some don't, but at least we're free to have one.

Calling someone a silly little man doesn't make an argument. You're the one that's being childish. I don't see Filmfan73 behaving in the same fashion. Agree to disagree then. It's not that hard.

So you have not seen it, don’t care to, and side step every bit of information about it from people, including expert reviewers that have seen it, and think it looks great.
Sounds logical.

I won’t say anymore to you.

Yeah, there is very minimal DNR. Thankfully no "smeary" look at all. This is a gorgeous looking set. I hope we get many, many more HB releases on BD like this one.

Had this been a classic film, I imagine most people would be in agreement that Warner botched the transfer. That's not to say it's absolutely terrible, but it's still inexcusable in my opinion.

(Top: Original BD, Bottom: film grain added)

If this were a classic film with slight DNR applied, there would be no issues with the video quality (no over-sharpening waxy smeared look, and grain still intact).

The audio is a different matter. This should have had HD audio.
