Ugh... Time Cop. That movie is so terrible with SO many plotholes that when it's sitting on a shelf next to other movies, it starts sucking them into its plotholes.

G4 should only play Ninja Warrior all day. That show is addicting.

You telling me.....

I saw it with some friends one time, we all agreed how dumb the show was. Yet 8 weeks later I think we had seen every episode made up to that point.

I understand that. There are many unrealistic movies that I am a fan of. Some are more unrealistic than others.

In general, I am facinated by the idea of time travel and enjoy other movies based around the subject. The Back to the Future movies are some of my all-time favorite movies. Granted, I can find some flaws and contradictions in the BTTF movies, but they aren't as basic or obvious as the ones in Time Cop, and don't stick out like a sore thumb that wrecks the whole thing.

In the movie, some gold is brought back from the past, and they supposedly 'carbon date' it. Only that can't work for 2 reasons. For one, carbon dating only works on things that are of organic origins. The remains of a person, animal, or plant that existed many years ago, for instance. And secondly, in order to be able to carbon date something, it has to actually exist for all of those years. You can't go back in time to 100 years ago, grab an animal that has only been alive for 6 months at the time it is from, bring it to present day, and carbon date it as being over 100 years old. It would only work if the animal was left in it's time to live out it's life, and the remains of the animal were found in present day.

Then there's the whole issue of "The same matter can't occupy the same space at the same time" thing. That's great, but my question is since when can different matter occupy the same space at the same time? If I put one of my hands up against the other, they aren't occupying the same space. One hand is occupying the space immediately next to the other.

This whole idea that if someone meets their own self from another point in time and they touch makes them turn into a big blob and explode (or whatever it was that happened in that movie... it's been YEARS since I've seen it) is utterly ridiculous. And for the sake of arguement, let's say that this was the case. Fine, but it would still require the EXACT same matter to touch.

If someone meets themself from 10 years in the future, by that time, the skin cell that they had 10 years ago would have LONG since fallen off and died, thus the same matter no longer even exists to touch.

And even if some time travels 10 minutes into the past, thus resulting in duplicates of the same skin cells to be in the same place, then it would still require the exact duplicate of the same exact cell to touch for this rule to make even a little bit of sense. If the the person were to take their finger and poke their other self in the back of the neck, it shouldn't cause any kind of problem.

Now, I know that some people will argue that I am over thinking things. But seriously, I don't see how anyone with at least a high school education and some basic ability to think can watch this movie and have no problems with it at all.

It's called suspension of disbelief. Yes, I don't expect movies to be 100% true to life. And I expect there to be some unrealistic stuff from time to time.

But, the movies should establish a logical set of rules that keeps their unrealistic aspects grounded with some sense of reality. They shouldn't take basic logic and simple scientific principles and pee all over them with nothing to back it up.

Take the carbon dating issue in Time Cop for example. Now, this could have been better handled by instead coming up with some kind of fictional scientific method of determining the date of origina of any object (organic or not) brought back to the present from the past. Yeah, it might be a little hard to swallow for some people, but its a heck of a lot better than saying they are supposedly using some existing scientific method in a manner that completely contradicts the way that the real method is actually used.

Things like this I can accept more in a more comedic, campy type of situation. If a goofy B-movie starring Bruce Campbell (who I am a fan of) were to do something like this, I would be far less judgemental of it, because the movie is not meant to be taken seriously.

But when a movie tries to be serious, but gets things so laughably wrong, that's when I will get on my soap box and criticize the hell out of it.

Wow, that's more thought than I've ever put into a movie, ever.

That just goes to show that Hollywood makes movies for the lowest common denominator.

When you really look at it, I didn't really put THAT much thought into it, at least not initially.

I have a very basic understanding of what carbon dating is. I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but I know enough to know that their use of it in the movie is completely wrong. They may as well have had random objects start lifting up off the ground, floating around, and said it was being caused by 'gravity' while they were at it.

And while I utlimately put some thought into the whole "same matter can't occupy the same space at the same time" thing, at first I didn't. But it clearly came across as nonsensical B.S., and over time, the more I thought about the issue, the less sense it made, and the more problems I found with it.

if i want to be "stimulated" i will go read a book... go to a museum... etc...

if i want to be entertained... i will watch a movie... yes some movies make you think... but the sole purpose is fun...

maybe you should stop watching movies... seems like there are way too many movies out there that just arent real enough...

Wow, you just don't get it.

It's not that I want every movie to MAKE me think. I prefer to just sit back and be entertained as well.

But, I do have basic knowledge of things in the world. And when I see things happen in movies that clearly make no friggin sense, even within the established fictional reality that the movie takes place in, I am going to to notice it, and ultimately criticize it. The bigger the the mess up, the more it will effect my enjoyment of the movie. I can overlook certain things from time to time, but if something is big enough, then yeah, I'm going to say something about it.

Even with the issues I pointed out put aside, Time Cop just wasn't a very good movie anyway.

There are plenty of movies that I do like. I have a very large collection of them.

Obviously I'm not alone in my opinion of the quality of this particular movie. The OP created this thread to point out how much the film choices of G4's "Movies that don't suck" line up actually do suck, so I don't see why you are directing your counter arguement solely at me.
