Default Lionsgate Digital Redeem Issue (QR only) starting with John Wick 3?

Appears the John Wick 3 digital code is only redeeming via the QR code within the Lionsgate app for some people.

For those affected:

* You can not manually enter the code directly into a streaming provider.

* You can not use a photo of the code slip sheet.

* However, you can use a video of the code slip sheet to scan the code into the Lionsgate app.

as mentioned below you can contact Lionsgate support (if you have the slip) and ask for them to provide you a redemption link.

Has Lionsgate given any indication this is going to be something ongoing? 'Starting with John Wick 3' seems like a big assumption. It's possible they're piloting a system or that it doesn't end up being their standard.

Nah, I had the same issue with the first one not redeeming in 4K and they never sent me a new code to fix the issue. I might try contacting them one more time. You might want to do the same

reason the statement ended in a question mark.

if the QR redemption only method becomes a standard for lionsgates titles going forward, its going to be a big headache for the consumer. hoping this is just a trial and they don't do it again on any other titles.

The QR scan system assumes that every consumer has the right phone and also the right type of (expensive) phone service. So if you have a flip-phone and an older desktop and that's it. Then what?

This system started with the codes for Robin Hood (2018). The difference there is that the back-up code still worked, whereas in this case the 7 digit code below the QR code on the John Wick 3 slips is SUPPOSED to work for back-up. In fact those were working on Monday, but were disabled Tuesday morning (release day!) If you're going to try out a new system like this, maybe not a good idea to disable the existing back-up.

I would say yes this is an attempt to control the product after it is sold. So that individual parts will not be sold/traded/given away (most commonly the digital code, though people DO sell other parts of sets on Ebay, like the slipcover, and/or the BD disc, etc).

I feel like this is just some marketing stunt to get more people do download that stupid app, if this becomes the norm for all their releases, they are about to be in a customer service nightmare.

In my area many concert and sporting events (including the NFL franchise) only accept mobile ticketing. Using your example people without the right type of phone can't attend. So either they get a more modern device or they won't be going to those events.

I'm not saying Lionsgate will move to this method permanently but if they do they will have taken into acct that some consumers won't be able to redeem their codes.

I wrote LG at "help@lionsgatevip.com", complaining that my code would not work. They wrote back requesting a photo of the insert. After I forwarded them the pic, they emailed me back a link to click on that automatically completed the process. It opened a site where I could choose my provider, in my case VUDU. When I clicked on the VUDU button it asked me to sign in, after I did the new code automatically populated the John Wick 3 redeem field and I had my digital copy in my VUDU library.

I need this to be redeemed in iTunes, as that's what the purchaser of my code wants. Is this a no-go? This QR shite has been the biggest PITA in my years of buying/selling digital codes.

Yes iTunes is an option. Although it's not MA and will not port into other services. It will be iTunes only.

Huh, what’s the UV Store? I’m guessing maybe a digital copy trading thread, but how or why would one use the UV name now when UV closed in July and John Wick 3 was obviously never going to be UV compatible.

I did this at 12:41am, but sent the pic with my e-mail asking for help. They replied with a link in less than an hour at 1:36am. Redeemed with Vudu. Very happy I didn't have to download the app and deal with all that nonsense.

Tried redeeming for 10 minutes and gave up. Lionsgate can shove this POS app and their additional DRM up their ass. I am just glad I can make my own digital copies.
