well. the way i look at it.

i am a HOT RODDER. a 500hp engine, running at 200hp. feels better than a 200 hp engine running at 200hp.

i want 500hp. even if i don't use it all.

i want an emotiva. quality, price, looks good. what more could you want ?
yep, a pre/pro to run it, and speakers to handle it.

i have the speaker part figured out. the pre/pro, not so much.

Emotiva UMC-1

If you can wait for it, which shouldn't be too much longer, although they do have to get through their pre-orders first.

Default Emotiva XPA-5

Reading up on Emotiva XPA-5, sounds like something I want to buy. But I'm not sure if I'll get the sound quality I want. Aslo not sure if they ship to Taiwan, I can always ship to home in states and then ship here I guess.

Sorry if these are stupid questions (and similar to ones I posted on another thread) I just want to make an informed decision. (Not like when I bought a PS3, and then was unable to get HD audio, and also the color is a little off for my taste).

My equipment is almost 9 years old. I am not concerned about AVR upscaling DVDs. Players can be connected to TV with HDMI to give me 1080p.

Question 1:
If I have an AVR (Marantz SR5200) which has pre-outs, no HDMI, and my new BD player (which decodes HD audio onboard) is connected with 6 RCA cables to my AVR, which is then connected to Emotiva XPA-5, which is then connected to my 5 speakers, and my 150W active sub(B&W ASW600) is connected to the AVR, will I get complete HD sound?

Question 2:
Will LFE be a problem if the BD player is converting the sound? The sub can be adjusted on back panel for volume and low-pass frequency.

Player decoding is fine, you will have HD sound. Now you have to decide whether you like what you hear or not in terms of sound quality. Don't panic, most likely a little tweaking will set ya straight.

The LFE shouldn't be a problem. You have to calibrate anyways so as long as you level match everything, you should be good to go.

Also a noob on this subject... so please set me straight...
So if a person was to get the UMC-1 as a processor, and then get, say the UPA-7 for the Amp... that combo would be similar to a receiver in terms of functionality (but would blow it away in terms of power, sound quality, etc).

Let me restate that... would those two components (UMC-1 and UPA-7) be the only things a person needs if they were deciding to go separates instead of an A/V receiver?

Thanks!

Yes, they would replace an a/v receiver in your set-up. You would still need a source(blu-ray player), speakers, display, and requisite cabling.

Yes that would be all you need ! the UMC-1 does not have the radio (tuner) in it ! The amp is where the power & sound Quality comes from !

The UMC-1 does have a radio turner in it. Just checked the specs on the EMO website after reading that ^^^^. It list it as having one with 24 presets for FM and some for AM.

Like Big Daddy and mdabb have said before me.....look at changing your speakers first in your case. I personally think those are the weakest link in your system at the moment. Change those and the bang for your buck will be much greater than adding a power amp.
