There is another sequence from the "lost" roadshow/director's cut where they had the footage according to Robert Harris, but supposedly Sony chose not to spend the money on finishing redubbing the missing dialog tracks during the Lean supervised restoration back in the late 1980's (from wence this newer digital restoration was mostly sourced) and now it's unusable for all time since all the principal actors are now dead. Goddamn bean counters!

Whoa, so late Spring 2020 is the most likely "official" release at this point?

It’s likely the same 4K SDR stream available elsewhere that supposedly looks fantastic even without wider color gamut and HDR.

Just bought it and will stream it tomorrow.

HDR = revisionism

this release doesn't need a new color grade IMO.

WHy such a delay from the theatrical re-release?

Still, better than not even on the horizon delays for a ton of other recent 4k re-releases in theaters.

The thing I don't get is that so many of the films that scream for 4k, they sit on, even when they have 4k masters, fresh ones, done. And they keep releasing these other catalog titles in 4k, many of which don't scream for 4k half as much.

can't imagine how this would be on the proper HDR... i once watched the 4K SDR and it looks fantastic... it's LOA and Sony so i really can't expect anything less than phenomenon...

HDR isn’t a “new color grade.”

You should learn about dynamic range and color space on discs then you might understand what HDR is, and does. Might give you a proper perspective.

Pity for those like me looking forward to it sooner but if it'll help the quality of the release I'm not as fussed.
