1 - Halloween (original)
2 - Childs Play
3 - A Nightmare on Elm Street
4 - Scream
5 - Friday the 13 Part III

Jaws would be #2 on the list if I considered it a horror movie which I don't.

1. Poltergeist (Tobe Hooper and Speilberg, how can you go wrong?)
2. Halloween (78)
3. Event Horizon
4. Cabin Fever (Can't believe no one mentioned this yet)
5. Hellraiser

My wifes list.

My list shows that I'm a 80's baby:

1. The Lost Boys
2. Nightmare on Elm St. Parts (1,2,3,4, and 5)
3. Fright Night
4. Child's Play
5. Return of the Living Dead (1985)

It may not be true horror, but I loved the Monster Squad as a kid.

1. Suspira (great story amazing use of colour, lighting & sound to make you feel the movie.)
2. Dellamore Dellamorte (great story line, not very scary but it has a little of everything to round it out.)
3. Zombie (a gore master , nothing better then zombie vs shark in my mind for a few laughs.)
4. Holloween ( i think it speaks for its self, ive always found it to be a perfect slasher film with a great story line.)
5. the beyond( another argento movie i think again his use of goblin for soundtracks really makes his movies.)

I could go on and on with horror movies worth watching, I really cant wait for argento movies to make it onto bluray.

1. Halloween (the original)
2. The Thing
3. Texas Chain Saw Massarce (the remake)
4. 28 weeks later
5. Scream

i have a lot more but the op wants 5.. i see people listed jaws. i don't really see that being a horror movie; imo... but if it's genre is in fact horror it would be in my top 5.. the same goes for silence of the lambs.. not sure if its considered horror

ahhhh i cant pick just 5!

1. the thing
2. halloween
3. day of the dead
4. dawn of the dead
5. lost boys

to me these are all straight up classics,
the concept of jason and freddy were milked to death.
both are ok...but freddy was pure fiction, jason
in my book would have to go up against the same real-ness of halloween.
and i say michael myers kicks ass versus jason voorhees. (the new 13th
is pretty dope though.)

and yes. i like QUARUNTINE, scared the shit out of me.

other movies i am in love with are:

psycho (older one)
ticks (carlton from fresh prince)
leviathan (peter weller)
the mist
night of the creeps
poltergeist
from dusk till dawn
american werewolf in london (whoever said this is amazing)

all of those are pretty ****ing dope.
