Default Do you use 4K sometimes an excuse to buy a bad movie?

As the titles states, I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of it. I know I certainly am.

Is it ever an excuse to buy a movie you don’t particularly like if the movie has been given a good 4K release. Does a great visual experience make up for bad script, dialogue etc....?

I did it with Alien: Covenant and some of the Transformers Movies, and do get enjoyment out of how awesome the picture is, even if the movie is rubbish.

I'll never buy a movie just because its 4k, but if it's a blind buy I'll buy the 4k if its available since if I'm going to watch it I might as well get the best quality. Happens a lot on black friday.

If it's a movie I know I dont like though, I just wont but it peroid.

Of course.

I would never have purchased Mortal Engines on blu-ray. Even if it was on special that would have stayed in my "wishlist". But as it is with this format, and given it's a DV title on top of that, it's going to be owned on 4K UHD

Nope. Only buy good movies in 4k(for the most part) as I consider it the fine wine format. Schlock(and guilty pleasures) I'll usually just pick up on reguar bd

I bought Skyscraper last Black Friday. It’s not very good and was shot digitally with a lot of CGI. I learned my lesson (I hope)

I used this excuse with DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and up until very recently with 4K.

From now on I'll buy (4K) movies I really want for the movies themselves and not just cause they're in 4K.

My name is Dave.
I am a 4Kaholic. I have purchased movies that I don't really like that much just because they were on 4K.

The opposite. 4K makes me evaluate if the Blu/movie is worth owning in the collection before even considering the 4K.

No. When I dislike a movie, or when I didn't like the trailer at all I wouldn't just buy it because it's available in 4k. Screen quality doesn't just magically make me appreciate a movie. You still have to watch 1.5-2.5 hours of a movie you don't really like.

That said; when it's a blind buy (but I only blind buy movies when I at least liked the trailer - I've yet to buy a blind buy that I didn't like) I get the 4k when it's available. It's a waste to just buy a movie on blu ray to try it out, only to buy the 4k when it turns out I liked it.

It certainly makes me more open to “trying again” with some movies I didn’t like in the past. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t. Also makes me blind-buy a lot of stuff I wouldn’t have if it were just Blu-ray.

The patriot is awesome but to each their own, right? . The 4K is excellent too.

Bingo. Good and bad is way too subjective. I’m right wit ya though, visuals aren’t nearly enough to get me to buy a movie. Eye candy and it’s appeal went away years ago. Just not wowed by that stuff like I was even back when HD came out. Besides, for visuals you can just watch documentaries and stuff like that. Why sit through a movie you can’t stand?

These threads lol

When your favourite movies growing up were 80’s trash it carries over into your adult years. The format definitely heightens or strengths my love for B movies. I watched Lock Up yesterday and loved it. I had seen it many times especially in my VHS days but it was like seeing it for the first time.

One of my early 4K purchases was Power Rangers. I bought it mostly for the AV.

I might revist it at some point, but sadly I don't remember it delivering on ANY front...

More recently, I bought Scorpion King but at least it was super cheap.

Every DC movie. Excellent 4K presentations, but I would never watch them all the way through again. But the action scenes sounds and look great.

Then they start talking.
