My philosophy is for every opportunity to screen a film with a film projection, especially with a new print, screen it. The DCP will be around, and look the same, forever. If the Joker lives up to expectations, I have an A-List card, I can screen it the following week in DC for free.

Perhaps the projectionist and/or projection set-up was sub-par. I've been pretty lucky with the local Alamo. They screen a slew of film, have a number of 35MM series, e.g., Prints of Darkness, etc., and they have it down pat.

But that said, it is film, and not a digital file from main office. So, to each their own.

The 35MM screening of OUATIH at our local Alamo was pretty special. Opening night, sold out crowd of Tarantino film freaks, the drinks were flowing, the laughs were loud and getting louder, and the reels of steel were rolling.

It was the film, I tell you. The 35MM film.

The IMAX version is a blow up. It was shot in 35mm.

As mentioned on previous page, it was shot digitally, ARRI 65.

I had the same experience at my Alamo but with the opposite reaction, haha. I can’t stand the snarky hipster crowd Alamo draws, and I think their reactions actively removed me from the movie’s atmosphere. It was such an awful experience that I pretty much swore off ever going to Alamo again, even though it’s like five minutes from me. I like seeing 35mm prints but I just can’t deal with that place anymore.

As a giant fan of his 90s films being around a bunch of Tarantino fans still sounds pretty annoying.

Sharing the cinematic experience and socializing with fellow film aficionados, who by the way respect each other and don’t talk or text during the show, over food and drink in a welcoming environment created, managed and staffed by people who love movies and movie theaters, is not for everyone.

It’s perfectly understood that for some, screening a film alone, at home or in a cavernous chain theater, is preferable.

So, as I said, to each their own.

Personally, I’ll be sitting in sold out audience screening Joker in 35mm film having a brew, some popcorn and whatever looks good that night on the menu.

Whatever you choose, enjoy.

I'm like you nowadays Ross. I used to walk just about everywhere I went. Then I got very stationary. Now, I try and walk more. But summers in the south pretty much prohibit any kind of walking. It's just too dang hot.
