After seeing pictures of people with the steelbook in hand, I’ve caved in and ordered it. Such a smart steelbook.

A few years back, Roger Luckhurst wrote one of those pocket BFI Classics paperbacks on The Shining, and he analyzed the movie from a number of intriguing perspectives - he even talks about all the fairy tale imagery and motifs woven into the movie. Well worth picking up for anyone interested in the themes of the movie.
Thanks lads. The Overlook how it's shot in wide definitely gives the hell vibe. The brooding music as well. I'll need to pick up that book for the fairytale aspects. I'm not all that familiar with fairytale stuff lol.

I think from the way I've analysed over the year's, I've understood more why Kubrick is a genius. And that he can balance artistry and entertainment perfectly. Realising the importance in both, even if he values art more personally. It's a quality not many auteurs have. Paul Thomas Anderson comes to mind though.

I think I posted this before, months or years before, but I think it's worth posting again - if anyone's interested in reading Kubrick's scene-by-scene original treatment for The Shining, here it is. It's interesting to see what ended up on screen and what was left out.

Amazon says mine is still on-track for Wednesday, but if I add it to my cart again they're all like "GET IT THE DAY IT COMES OUT!" So I re-ordered and cancelled the original pre-order. It's on track for Tuesday now. Amazon is silly sometimes lmao

Well its the 3rd best movie of all time. 2001 is already released but The Shining is just a little more rewatchable ( as goes any good horror films) than 2001. 2001 for its time is as grand as any classic. Gwtw Twoo Ck etc. The best last year was 2001.

But can u imagine if they at wb got their heads out of the toilet and released all 3 cuts in 4k the trailer and the original mono? plus correct ar 1.85 . boobs

Yeah, the hotel and how it's shot definitely makes it a real character in the story. It's like this huge, silent, hulking monster, particularly when you see the human characters walking down those long corridors, dwarfed by those huge, towering walls. To me it always felt like Kubrick wanted the hotel to have an overpowering, soaring, cathedral-like atmosphere - but instead of filling the audience with a sensation of being close to some majestic God you're supposed to feel like you're in the presence of some enormous, majestic evil.

Indeed. It kind of seems like a Western influence. Using a large landscape to make a film feel bigger. Small man, big country. Yet, despite that, there's still a real claustrophobic sense. I think that's because it mixes shots of the corridors, the pantry ect effectively.

After watching it last night this is bar none the best way to see The Shining in any format. After a while all that this release should have had just fades away and all you see is what’s there.

The detail is stunning to say the least it’s like watching it for the first time all over again and I’ve seen it at home and theatrically too many times too count. I for one am glad to see it at home in such a beautiful manner.

It was filmed in 1979. Also, styles didn't change until around 1982.
