So, it is... except that it isn't.

I do understand what you said they did. It's irrelevant. The correct aspect ratio is 1.85:1; the disc is 1.78:1.

It doesn't matter how they arrived at the wrong destination - 1.85 =/= 1.78.

The shoulder pads and Whoopi's big frizzy hair in Sister Act scream 1980s.

Also, Mel Gibson's hair looks '90s to you? That mullet is one of the most '80s haircuts I have ever seen.

My theory still applies.

That is all true and I see where you're coming from, but those movies still feel very '90s to me. totally. They don't have that look or style of the '80s about them. Mullets were still big in the '90s. lest we forget grunge and that sloppy look. Philadelphia was about the Aids epidemic that in the '80s, but when I watch that movie all I can think of is the '90s. It's just got that '90s vibe down very well in my mind. Not to mention I don't think Batman and Batman Returns shares that much stylistically. It's a much darker movie than Batman.

Cameron Crowe's last movie before that was Say Anything and it was totally an '80's movie. 3 years later and Singles couldn't be any more '90s if it tried. right down to the grungey soundtrack.

I think people just moved on quick from the '80s and that style/scene died quickly as well. Part of why that is I believe has to do with the music scene. just about 2-3 years earlier (from 1990) college/alternative rock was starting to actually break into the mainstream and would change the scene completely once it took over in 1991. It helped shape the look as well as the sound. By spring of '94 the grunge look was hitting fashion runways in a big way. It's funny how sometimes music can shape fashion and culture to such a degree that it has a lasting effect on the decade. Like the '60s for example. Anyway, that's my two cents.
In Britain things were heading for an overkill of 60s nostalgia.

There is no visible difference between 1.78 and 1.85 when projected. You would lose the extra information. Some theaters may show more at the top, others more at the bottom. This way they have covered both bases. As far as the width goes, it is common width. 1.85 isn't wider, it is shorter.

My apologies if this has been discussed (I cannot seem to find it mentioned in this thread)....

Has the original Bass logo been restored or is it still the newer one?

Umm... I beg to differ.

The correct approach would be to cover neither of those bases because they're both outside of the intended picture area.

Not at all. 1990-1991 were still very much like the late 80s in their overall style - a lot of neon, a lot of dance music. There was a tonal shift around 1992 when grunge broke out into the mainstream, so while I agree that the 90s as a decade found its footing a little quicker, there was still an 80s influence in the very early part of the decade.

Aperture plates were not precise either. It depended on how they were filed. You want it down to the pixel, but that isn't how composing and projecting work. The difference is about two or three scan lines on a television. You are literally splitting hairs.

I'm not saying don't buy it, but no way does this deserve 90+ as a Movie it's 100 as a release this thing is maybe 60% what WE fans deserve. Don't play it any other way. YOU ARE MISSING THE SOUND AND THE PICTURE. Last time I checked those were important. And something you get RIGHT not WRONG.

If I were to pick a film that showed the 80s in all its glory, it would definitely have to be Working Girl.

LOL there's a pic of me and my partner at a '70s themed party that we went to a few years ago. Got the long hair, big glasses and short gym shorts that scream 70s. It's a mix between Bruce Jenner and William Katt in Carrie lol.

Coulda been early '80s tho.
