After watching this in full last and then waking up to the review I was wondering if I had seen the same presentation.

The same reviewer once again reviewing a WB disc in a 4000 nit container struggles with darkness on his set. Which at this point I personally could only chalk that up to being his TV poorly tone mapping or whoever calibrated his set messed a setting up throwing off its tone mapping.

I checked the scenes Michael Rueben specifically stated in his review this morning and did not find anything remotely that I would label as crush or posterization with the blacks. The very small select few shots that objects/Gremlins were shrouded in shadow and darkness where mainly the same when I compared it to the BD. Although the BD now appears over bright at times giving it a washed out flat look in comparison now. I also didn't find any issues during the tavern scene.

However I do have one complaint and I'd love to see if it's me and my set �� or if other members notice this. What looks like macro blocking in the upper and center right corner in the first scene of Billy and Gizmo in his bedroom when the camera is closing in on them as he tries to musically mimic Gizmos hum.

Mr Reuben had a ZD9 last I heard which is what makes his struggles with dimmer titles like Goodfeathers and Gremlins so puzzling.

Any other ZD9 users want to chime in? I have an X930E (which Vincent Teoh refers to as "the baby ZD9") and I'm not seeing those issues on my display either.

I have an X90F and it looks wonderful. Never had an issue with anything being too dark.

Also have a 930E and no problems with any of the scenes being to dark.

Cheers lads. So I already feel safe in saying now cheers Michael, you've probably tanked sales on another back catalogue UHD title, thanks to another stupid review. Which will impact getting Gremlins 2. Just do us all a favour, and give up reviewing 4K for the sake of the former, please!

Got the last copy, wasn't planning on getting the SB but it's all they had and it is nice looking.

Wanting to order this with a few other titles from Amazon.com, but never bought from the USA site before. Was wondering what their packaging is like when ordering multiple titles, is it better than the likes of WOWHD etc...?

Not sure if they do anything special for international orders but Amazon's domestic shipping is notorious for damaging physical media regardless of the size of the order. I would not order from them if you have other options and getting a damage-free copy is important to you.

The reviews, forums, database and referral links all work together in a good way here, but sometimes you've just gotta see a UHD for yourself with how wild the discrepancy can be with tonemapping and differing expectations.

I think WB's been smart with how they seem to cautiously short the initial supply of their catalog releases, considering how contentious everything gets with youtube reviewers throwing a wrench in everything, color debates on the Matrix, 2001 early disc errors etc.

Typically they ship with plastic bubble mailers:

Sometimes they ship with paper padded ones:

Sometimes its a yellow bubble mailer:

If you have a handful of titles you might get lucky and get a cardboard one:

Unfortunately only the last one tends to be delivered damage-free.

I didn’t think the movie looked dark at all, see the bar & watching Snow White scenes. The close up scenes of a Gizmo & Stripe are pretty detailed. Not bad looking for a 35 year old film.

It really is a "blah" 4K transfer.

Just flipped through it, then put on THE SHINING, which looks spectacular. Looks like it's from a different format altogether in terms of detail and overall clarity.

Only if VUDU offers them. I just checked and at the moment they don't. So you'd have to go to iTunes.
