MCU fans shouldn't rejoice too quickly. Reports are that it's only for one Spiderman movie, while additional reports are that there could be crossovers between Sony's MCU and Marvel Studios MCU and possibly a future Spiderman appearance in another MCU film, it remains to be seen if an extended deal can be made.

The blame to all of this is placed solely on Disney who tried to reach too high, if the news reports that Disney wanted 50% participation (co-funding and profits are to be believed). But, I think Disney may try to push the envelop after the third Spiderman movie by demanding more profits in future Spiderman movies.

If I was the CEO of Disney, I would look at Sony's capitulation as weakness and attempt to push the envelop further by demanding more of profits from Sony (31%-50%) and demanding access to the more popular Spiderman characters and villains. Disney may even try to demand an agreement to try to leech onto Sony's Venom film as a means to incorporating the villain into the MCU.

But, I'm not excited over this news in the least because I simply don't like how Marvel Studios handled the first two movies. They made Peter Parker/Spiderman look like an immature moron who can't make decisions unless he's asking for Tony Stark's permission. Personally, as much as I hate Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, and despite my hate for how the Green Goblin was designed in Sam Raimi's Spiderman, I think those Spiderman movies have better development and are closer to the comic book version of the character than the MCU films are. The MCU films simply child-proofed the character.

I'm not the first to notice this as this opinion has been shared by many who don't frequent Blu-ray.com, who are in the news industry and entertainment review sites. Marvel Studios really needs to start developing the character a little better but I'm not expecting that they will. Homecoming and Far From Home just didn't feel anything close to the characterization that we saw in previous Sony Spiderman movies. But, I do expect that Disney will take the next two years and make the attempt to purchase the Spiderman rights back from Sony, since Apple still wants to purchase Sony Pictures.

I don't know who these people are in the news industry and entertainment review sites but if you type rank the Spider-Man movies and search. The MCU movies don't seem to be below the TASM series or Spider-Man 3 and occasionally over the 1st Spider-Man.

Yeah after the deal is extended for two more movies I'm really going to "not celebrate" getting seven Spider-Man MCU movies. LOL.

Because I really need Tom Holland in the Marvel Universe for 33 movies to make me happy

Sony may have played the smarter move and come on top of the deal after all. What they've wanted, all along, was to have Spiderman appear in their "Venom-verse" but the version of Spiderman that was created for the MCU, Marvel Studios agreement with Sony, the original deal, prevented this. Sony and Disney eventually made a new agreement but it defers to Sony's side and allows them to use Spiderman / Peter Parker (Tom Holland) from the MCU in future Venom-verse films.

This is something that was alluded to by Kevin Feige in an interview he gave after the new deal was reached. Not only does Spiderman get to remain in the MCU for a single solo Spiderman movie and a future MCU movie but it also allows Tom Holland to also appear in a future Venom, Morbius, Sinister Six, Kraven movies down the line. Sony originally wanted Tom Holland to appear in the first Venom movie in a cameo but that Marvel Studios put the squash on that, which may have led to the design change on Venom's costume.

Spider-Man is known for saving the world—but this time, he saved himself.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, one of the reasons Disney and Sony finally came to terms over the use of the web-slinger was due to personal pleas from Spider-Man actor Tom Holland. “Sources say the star, 23, made multiple appeals to Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution,” the trade reports.

As a result, after several weeks where it seemed like Holland’s version of the character would no longer interact with characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the two companies reached a deal to co-producer a third Sony Spider-Man movie, and for Holland to appear in one more Disney production.

I originally came across the story from a Midnight's Edge video. I know, I don't trust Midnight's Edge either. This is why I did a search for the original source of that news and discovered that other media outlets had reported on it.

It isn't "confirmed" yet. Just speculations by these sites. Better wait for Hollywood Reporter, Deadline or Variety to confirm it.

I asked about future Venom films, you said in your post the deal is about Holland appearing in them is part of the new deal.

Good grief. Marvel Studios never confirms anything until the movie is in theaters. If you're looking for a guarantee, no such thing exists in the real world or in this reality. The only thing that's guaranteed is death and taxes and contracts or agreements between studios are also never released. Everything everybody talks about upcoming movies are based on speculation or reading into matters that come from interviews given.
