I see, and hear, the limitations of streaming's quality, but I am not going to exaggerate and claim that those differences are so dramatic that streaming should be called "shitty." If it were that bad, I would not stream anything ever. I find that streaming's AV quality, overall, can be very good, but it is not as good as disc and then there's that whole ownership thing that I constantly harp about. I will rent content via streaming, but I will buy content on disc. This should be self-evident just by looking at the numbers under my avatar. |

When I ask my friends that buy and collect books, I ask them how often do they reread them. They usually look at me like I just spoke heresy while admitting that they seldom reread any of them and that many have never been read at all. They like having them around, they like how they look on the shelf, and they do not try to justify their collection by the frequency of their reuse. Nor should they have to, either. People collect what they like for a host of reasons and whether those reasons make sense to others or not is irrelevant. We should do what we enjoy; the enjoyment is the justification. |

Even cinema wise, I have already seen ‘Joker’ twice. Rare for me but it was so bloody good. |

For example, I am very fond of The Killing Fields and Schindler's List, but I have to be in a certain frame of mind to revisit these somber movies. |

I don't really struggle that way. I will obviously be moved when watching it, but I enjoy experiencing the whole spectrum of emotions.

Don’t know if everyone in the States saw that it was going on again, but Target online is doing their Buy 2 Get 1 for free on movies. I just picked up 12 4K discs that never seem to drop in price, and I got them for about $16 a title plus free shipping.

My prediction for buzzword of 2020. ‘Storyworld’. An incredibly rich, interconnected world that tells its stories over film, tv, webisodes, shortform, games, podcast and novels/comics.
We already have it now in a way with the Marvel and Starwars stuff but it sounds like there are plans to turbo charge this stuff. I notice several new studios have formed with this very intention, recruiting hundreds of staff. I mentioned last year that it would get to a stage where interconnected tv series and films would be a thing and it would be increasingly more difficult to just see a stand alone film without having to watch the tv series or vice versa. Streaming services are well set up for this, Disney especially. So, good thing, bad thing? |

As I previously stated the ps5 is now officially confirmed as a 4k player, so that’s a nice boost to the format

Watched Apocalypse Now Final Cut (UHD BD) last night and the Dolby Atmos sound track needs to be heard by fans of the film. And make sure your subs are up to par. This sound track easily best most of the new stuff in directional pans and LFE. Studios should be ashamed of the enervated sound tracks on most of the modern movies they are putting out.
