My all time favourite movie and given Fox's recent 4k catalogue stuff, this could look crazy good if and when they get around to releasing it...
Always a drab looking film...I'm not sure HDR will radically alter things, I imagine something similar in look/feel to Patriot Games or CAPD in 4k, which I for one would be more than happy with...some deathly skin tones aside. The night scenes at LAX could be a standout HDR moment. C'mon Fox do we need to petition you for this?? |

What’s the point of extra resolution and HDR if they’re going to recolour the steely blues into orange & teal again? Which is most likely since that is apparently Michael Mann’s preferred look. The man should never be let near his own work again.
I’m sticking with my Jap blu. |

Really?! Then why all are the catalog titles suddenly getting released on 4k by Disney? And old ones at that (older than Heat).

Those are fairly recent releases in the scheme of movie making history and ones that make big money for Disney (Marvel, PIXAR - that kind of thing). I'm talking about the Golden Age of Hollywood, the 60's, the 70's, and some of the 80's. Disney is terrible about those - even their own titles let alone from studios they now control. The handful that are seem to be dumped on DMC where most people wouldn't know where to look. |

It's also interesting that (if you are going by caps alone), out of the 16 caps on caps-a-holic, only about 4-5 are actually "teal" now. The rest look 99% identical (only without the slight magenta push of the previous blu), and one is even LESS teal than the previous disc. The shootout is the only real sequence that looks - by the SDR caps - more teal. Last edited by Bates_Motel; 08-07-2019 at 05:40 PM. |

I seem to recall someone mentioning issues with the streamed HDR version on iTunes with unnatural colours and near black compression....still no sign of a disc....may just have to bite! |

I saw the UHD "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan" in iTunes about the same time, and it was gorgeous. |

Given that Disney now controls Fox, I doubt we will see much in the way of catalog releases on disc going forward.
I could be wrong, but Disney has an abominable track record. And if you'll notice, after the buyout the 4k catalog titles have pretty much dried up from Fox. |
