Most commercial theaters can't afford to update their audio and video equipment because, they're making enough money, so they continue to use what they have, and make due. Theaters don't make as much money as people think they do, which is why they charge triple prices at the concession stands. Moviegoers spend more money buying junk food, than what they've paid to see the movie. That's where they make the majority of their money, not from the movies! If it wasn't for the concession stands, theaters wouldn't be able to sustain their business.
