And my order from Tuesday just arrived at my local post office. I'm currently in Horror October mode, so I won't get a chance to watch most of them (except The Brood) until next month at least, but it is always nice when a short stack of Criterions arrives at your doorstep. Added bonus...Dial M For Murder is out for delivery as well. The weekend is looking up!

Just watched Crisis from the Bergman box last night, and what an interesting first film that shows the directors potential immediately.

In all honesty, that Blu-ray wasn't that bad but I love Lyndon and would happily get it if it's substantially better.

The extras seem interesting too.
+1 recommending the upgrade (if you haven't already done so). All-around superb release from Criterion.

Was just culling my "wishlist" on criterion.com and noticed several titles on "backorder", which is to be expected after the sale, but I also noticed that the Repulsion blu ray is now "currently unavailable" and there isn't a link to add it to your cart. I don't remember seeing that before the sale. Notice it is only available from 3rd party sellers on Amazon as well. Indication it is now OOP?! I would think it would show on "backorder" like the others if not.

Not just the correct aspect ratio, the original blu has some individual shots which are weirdly cropped. The screenshot comparisons revealed at least one of them (a shot of the letter towards the end) where the original composition was significantly different than what was in the original film.

Probably just issues with the replication plant. Dr.Strangelove was out of print for a few months and then came back. I feel sorry for the people who paid $100.00 plus for the blu to those scalpers....

But still online at B&N and instore at most of the B&N Media stores in my region. Seems like one to put on the early shopping list for the presumed upcoming sale

Repulsion is unlikely to go OOP since it's owned by Sony, probably just between pressings. I wouldn't expect anything owned by Sony to go OOP as long as they're Criterion's distributor.

Even with the Disney/Fox situation, it doesn't seem too dire considering they've had titles like Naked Lunch in print for over 15 years.

The extras seem interesting too.
It's one of the most essential Criterion releases. Presentation itself is perfect, plus over two hours of supplements. Even better, it's a 2-disc release at the regular $40 MSRP (like Do the Right Thing, The Silence of the Lambs, Rebecca, Night of the Living Dead, etc)

For that matter, I really appreciate the trend of Criterion sticking to $40 MSRP on 2-disc releases for the most part. Obviously, a higher MSRP makes sense on stuff like War and Peace, Othello, Pierre Etaix, etc. due to the immense content... but the 2-disc configuration for the sake of not sacrificing presentation quality for one disc getting stuffed is good.

Criterion's Barry Lyndon is a no-brainer upgrade for sure. Original aspect ratio, original mono audio, all those extras, etc. Plus it looks wonderful.

Woo, got my order today! Nice box full of goodies, probably going to watch the Sisters blu first.

The slip box for the Hitchcock set has a big smooshed crease down the side though...think Criterion will send me a new box or should I just live with it?

Mine arrived damaged as well when I bought it off of Amazon. I just tossed it aside and put them on the shelf individually. They are still in their own Scanavo cases so no big deal to me.

Then of course so many I want to buy and own forever- but not enough $$ ! My fave Astaire Rogers is Swing Time and Shall we Dance- Barkleys is good too! And Gay divorcee is good, love the costumes and sets!
Swing Time and Top Hat are neck and neck for me. I love everything they did together. And, their dance routines were something else. I watch them, or Gene Kelly, also, or with Cyd Charise, or Leslie Caron, and I’m exhausted.

As for Shearer, I try to expose myself to the work of every actor I can. I haven’t seen enough yet to make up my mind, but I need a strong base of knowledge to write with. As far as my favorites go, Barbara Stanwyck and Ingrid Bergman are on top of the mountain, and others like Bette Davis, Kate Hepburn, Myrna Loy, Liz Taylor and Jean Harlow are looking to get hands to the top. I really like Gene Tierney and Lauren Bacall, too. Marilyn Monroe, obviously.

I just love classic film.

My first order came in early this afternoon.

Now, to start working on my B&N sale list, and get watching. I might not sleep at all this weekend.

Send an e-mail to mulvaney@criterion.com with the order number, and Jon will send you a replacement. I’m sure their order dept is swamped, but maybe cc orders@criterion.com, too, just to be safe. They’ll take care of it free of charge.

They’ve always been very good about taking care of their customers. They’ll make it right for you.

These things have been on the shelf so long, I wonder if there are any undamaged items left. Last sale I finally picked it up and the outer box was dinged and torn and a couple of the cases were damaged.

Emailed via " orders@criterion.com " and they sent me a pristine perfectly flat replacement box (hadn't even been unfolded) and 3 clear cases almost immediately.

I'd be shocked if they don't replace it free.

Cool, thanks for the replies everyone! I'll email them and ask if they have an extra box they can send. Hate to complain cause I love their flash sales and it got delivered so quickly, but I plan to put this one on my "boxset shelf".
