Fantastic movie...awful artwork. Basically all of the key art used for promotion was better than this. Is their goal to turn people off from a blind buy by making it plain as hell?

Yeah that artwork is quite dreadful.

Extremely entertaining movie. One of my favorites of this year.

Oof, that cover. Why not just use the poster art?

Disappointing cover for a disappointing movie. Makes sense.

This is what I wrote after seeing it:

I enjoyed the movie, but found it somewhat disappointing. I was expecting it to be much more of a fun thrill ride type of movie, but it just stays pretty much on rails for the bulk of its runtime. Yes, there's plenty of blood, and some gore, but none of the deaths are really all that creative or interesting at all. With a movie premise like this, that relies heavily on the murdering aspect, you'd think they'd have some pretty awesome death scenes, but aside from maybe the dumbwaiter one (and the end), the kills aren't really that special.

Part of what distinguishes this film is its dark comedy / satirical angle, and I did enjoy that. Samara Weaving, who I loved in The Babysitter, excels here, and you can really see her frustration, and transformation as the movie goes on. She was the saving grace (
[Show spoiler]pun unintended
) of the movie for sure.

I don't know if it's just the trailer ruining most of the kills, but there was barely any tension at all, and I just felt the movie could have been way more entertaining as a whole. I did think the ending was satisfying, and saved the movie from being completely predictable (though I did half-expect that to happen). Anyway, I'd consider it a good late-night kind of film, but nothing that memorable sadly.

3/5

I wouldn't say it was largely forgotten. It received both great critical reviews and audience reviews and made 28 million in the US (over 50 worldwide) on a 6 mill budget. It wasn't a huge hit by any means but to be say it was largely forgotten is incorrect. And with it coming out on DVD/Blu I'm sure it will find even more of an audience as these type of movies do.

Trust me I totally get why it did nothing for you but I strongly disagree with you on that last part.

I really hope that 3 part making of is at least an hour or more. Definitely want to have at least a good amount of extras for this release.

I see the Disney-fying of covers for Fox titles has kicked into full gear. Sigh.

I'll be picking this up without any waiting or considering. Already pre-ordered it, actually. I so wanted to see this when it was in the theater, but alas ....

As to the cover, this is what they have on the Amazon site. I really like this.

Horrified when Disney will release all home video releases of every film ever made.

Fox is good about including trailers on their discs, but I have very little hope Disney will continue this trend.

Thanks a lot, Disney! Not only are you going to monopolize the market of "how much can we add to this cover to hide the already hideous art", but you're also going to remove any hope I have left of being able to sit back with some popcorn, watch the trailers for my favorite movies, and then watch the feature itself... All on the same disc.

Bleak sauce.

Dark Phoenix was first, if I remember correctly.
