It has come true. I said stage 1 was the introduction of variable speeds to mainstream services. It is about to happen. That will be 130 million people overnight, having that option.

The conclusions and the predictions that you make from these innocuous pieces of trivia are what I am referring to here. Variable speed playback has existed for years and it has harmed exactly nothing.

I have many options now and I will have more in the future. Having options is not a bad thing. I have lost none of my options as a result of my having more of them.

VSP with pitch correction available to the mainstream without any other equipment has most certainly not been available for years.

We also didn’t have the huge amount of media we have now. Perfect storm like I keep saying.

I think having a huge amount of entertainment choices and a plethora of options with which to enjoy them is "perfect." It is perfectly wonderful.

Only if people are actually consuming them rather than racing through them on 1.5 x and not absorbing them.

People can make their own decisions and I suspect that this particular option would be used mostly with long and somewhat tedious instructional videos.

Regardless, the option to view and listen at normal speed will not be removed.

Netflix know who is watching how much of a series. They know if episodes are skipped. Soon they will know what speed. This could factor into what options stay and go.

Are you 100% confident of your last sentence?

First and foremost, I don't give f*** one what Netflix does or does not do.

There is no reason for Netflix to remove the normal speed option no matter how popular any other option might become. They want to increase their appeal to as many people as possible, not needlessly alienate any of them.

And yes, I am 100% confident that my ability to watch videos at normal speed will remain.

I buy content that matters to me on disc and thus I have full control over how it is viewed.

If any streaming provider were to be so stupid as to mandate high speed viewing, they would lose what revenue they do manage to get from me and I suspect from quite a few others as well. It is not in their interest to restrict how their viewers watch their service, especially with how competitive the streaming market has become.

Two years after Steedeel predicted that major companies would adopt variable speed playback, here we are. It’s a test at moment but I have zero doubts it will be popular. They did similar with YouTube and it proved extremely popular and became a major feature.

I did not think playing something back at .5x had anything to do with attention spans I thought it was used by adolescent boys to get a better longer view of that nipple slip

yup around 15 years ago I put a movie on for my young nephew (he is 22 now), somehow it ended up playing at 1.5x (did I or he hit the remote no one knows), went in an hour or so later to checkup on him, and put it back to normal. To this day he still brings it up how he watched most of the film at 1.5x the whole time wandering why everyone sounded funny.
