Same shit, different day. When members new to the thread come in and wonder why I’ve reduced my responses to GIF responses, this is why! It is the same tired ass alarmist bullshit I’ve read time and time again. Before PenguinInfinity, Anthony and Vilya it was Octagon and I asking Steedeel why he got worked up on things he couldn’t control. And as I said in my last post, have no affect on our viewing habits. Nothing, and I mean, NOTHING he has “predicted” has influenced mine. If anything, it has made it better. Because I now have more choices

Nothing I have said has influenced you? That is not a good thing.

We have:

Object Based Broadcasting that will allow consumers to shorten content without losing the core of the story.it will also allow far more interactive services.

Quibi

A brand new short form, big budget streaming service shot for mobile. Vertical and landscape compatible (however that will work) This service has the target of disrupting the entertainment world and changing millennials viewing habits. This will eat into time watching a TV set.

Netflix introducing variable speed playback to give consumers the option of flying through content faster.

They are also introducing cheaper mobile only plans.

5G been promoted as a game changer for reliable short form and broadcast programming.

Interactive film and tv is being produced for most major media businesses including YouTube, BBC and Netflix. We also have a slate of interactive films for release at cinema.

You honestly think our tv screen/projector days are not under threat in the coming years? Honestly?

For me, looking forward to the day when Sony's CLED displays may be affordable, some info here.

The only thing TVs and projectors have to worry about is being replaced by better and cheaper TVs and projectors.

And that is the First Worldiest of First World Problems.

It really would be wild to essentially go full circle from emissive phosphor displays to a solid state equivalent.

And maybe Sony would even brand the consumer sets Trinitrons.

How cool would that be

That would be Trinitron with it’s visible wires casting two horizontal shadows across the screen. It was my first portable tv when I was young. Cracking picture quality but I found myself getting distracted by those afore mentioned wires.

Do you or Wendell know what the technical name for those visible shadow lines were?

While I still enjoy my 65” Samsung KS, I’ll most likely go Sony the next go round Wendell. Of course I’ll need a dedicated space or new house if I do. The fireplace mantle can barely handle my current tv

Yes I love my 65" UHD Sony, and when I upgrade I would like an 85" like Vilya, but I could only handle a 75". It will be a Sony, they have Fantastic PQ!

Nothing is under threat but our patience from reading your constant barrage of pointless fear mongering.

Object based broadcasting is an unproven idea. Even if it becomes popular, it will never be our only option.

Quibi, also unproven and yet to be launched, is just another incarnation of Verizon's Go90, which utterly failed. At best, it, too, will only be another viewing option, never the only one.

Netflix does not care what speed anyone watches their content at so long as they are watching it...and paying for it. I can already watch their content at higher speeds if I so choose. Personally, I don't care to watch their stuff at any speed as I have cancelled their service until they offer something worth my time...and my $15.99 per month.

Netflix is only offering mobile plans in places like Malaysia and India where people generally are very poor compared to countries like yours and mine. You constantly misrepresent this fact; they are not offering any such plans anywhere in the so-called "first world." Even if they ever do offer such plans globally, Netflix certainly prefers that people subscribe to their higher tiers of service, not their lowest offerings.

5G is not a threat. It has the potential to bring high speed internet to regions that do not have it and it offers some competition to those areas that already do. I would love for my monopolistic ISP to face some competition!

Interactive TV shows and movies are also unproven. They will not replace traditional content; at the most they, too, will just be another item on our ever growing entertainment menu.

TVs and Projectors are doing fine. The sales data for both proves it. None of the things listed above are going to make people eschew a 65" or larger screen to instead watch their favorites exclusively on a 6" phone. That's just talk.

Every time that anything new is proposed or launched, you go straight into a . You go there alone. None of the above threatens anything that we currently enjoy and we may even find that we like some of it. Keep an open mind, not a fearful one.

I deleted my reply as well, which is now enshrined in your quoting of it, but to be fair that subject has been against forum rules for years and you know it. Discussing politics, or religion, is like juggling nitroglycerin; nothing good will come of it.

Having a devil of a time deciding what to watch tonight. I guess I will go with Only The Brave as I have friends in California on my mind, some of whom have had to be evacuated due to the relentless wildfires there. This movie gives you an appreciation for the firefighters that battle these apocalyptic conflagrations.

As usual Steedeel is worried about various things that haven't even proven to be popular. But in his mind they are guaranteed to be so popular that they will overtake the entire movie and TV industries and cause everything else to be wiped out.

Brick up the fireplace, remove the mantle, and get the TV that you want. You live in Texas, whaddya need a fireplace for, anyways?

Get a giant TV and just watch a youtube fireplace video if you miss having it. Plug in a space heater for added realism.

It is a very good movie, but seeing as I own the blu-ray I also have the digital copy. I'll give you three guesses as to which one I watched tonight, too.

Believe it or not, where I live is very similar to Washington State. However, neither fireplaces are functional. Here’s an old picture of where my flatscreen sits for the moment.
