Both! I don’t need the intro’s! Once the start time hits, trailers and then movie!

Starting times has always been an issue, but I simply adjust my time schedule accordingly.

Say I'm going to see a movie that starts at 7pm, I'll get there and I'll only just start seeing advertisements for products until 7.15pm. Then we get trailers for upcoming movies and by the time the movie actually starts it's 7.30pm.

They should really adjust the show times to allow for this, but my cinema never does. But I'm used to it.

Oooh, you're playing a dangerous game there! Every now and then cinema chains like to just play the film with no adverts beforehand just to **** with the people who try to take into account for all the boring fluff at the start of a screening! I got stung big time with Angel as Fallen this year, bloody film had been on almost 20mins by the time I arrived!

I find at my cinema if they are screening a foreign language film - especially asian films - that are on a limited screening schedule, they are much more likely to start them early.

I can really relate to Norton's statement.

Last week I went to go see Rambo: Last Blood. I walked out after 15 minutes.

The first thing I did when I arrived before the previews started was to look back at the projection booth glass to see if the 3D polarizer and splitter was in the optics path. It wasn't! Good so far. I was the only person in the theater and another person showed up and quietly sat down. No biggie. A couple came in and carried on a conversation immediately even when the previews started. Sometimes people talk through these, I figured. I was worried, but I decided to give them a chance. However, the lights never turned down from earlier. They were still at full intensity. So I left to ask someone to turn down the lights. They said they would when the movie started. I wanted to see some trailers, but fine. I was here for Rambo.

When the movie did start, the lights went down to maybe half brightness. No joke. The image was totally washed out. When the Lionsgate logo came up, it was incredibly quiet. No real dynamics or even damn volume to the intro. I could barely hear the actual film, and it felt to me like watching a movie with TV speakers. Of course, that couple sat right next to me and kept talking, asking who was who in the film and making all sorts of comments. I asked them twice to please keep it down as I was trying to watch, and they kept right on going. I thought surely the lights would turn off or at least go very dim and after another 10 minutes I had enough. Crappy lighting. A washed out picture. Poor sound. Idiots yammering that were louder than the actual film. I knew that there was simply no way I was going to enjoy this.

I left again for good and asked for a manager and inquired as to why the lights were only halfway down. They said it was for "safety reasons" and that all of their screening rooms were like that. This was total bullshit as different theaters in the same chain (EMagine) don't have this issue. For the record, the theater I went to was the EMagine in Lakeville, MN. The one in Plymouth (Willow Creek) doesn't have the shitty "safety lights." I told them that the picture was unwatchable and that I wanted my money back instead of a pass, which they didn't fight me on at least.

I'll just have to wait for it to come out on 4K. I really did want to watch a Rambo movie in the theater but I know now to go with my gut and just leave if I know that I am not going to enjoy it. It's sad when I can get a far better A/V experience at home. Plus, no talkers!

I haven't checked all previous pages so this is likely been covered but yeah, 100% agree with Norton on this. My local cinema chain is a prime candidate for this BS practice of an extremely dim and dark picture you can barely see anything from. I seriously don't understsnd who is responsible for the crap as it seems to happen a LOT. Especially for 3D where glssses make it even worse.

The fact i pay a monthly subscription and not per ticket i guess kinda takes the edge off but i think he's right, i probably need to start talking to the manager after a crappy dark movie projection and asking for some sort of compensation as a customer each time. It's really why people are stopping many viewings alongside the huge price gouge of tickets and concessions. It's no longer an "experience" until a pop culture event movie like Star Wars, Avengers etc. seem to release for most i think and why most are abandoning it as a waste of money.

I personally don't think it needs to be so long as it currently is, and secondly to me the comparison footage doesn't elicit a 'wow' from me. Dolby could, and should, do a new 'shorter' version like they do with their Atmos intros

Now, I know it’s just a silly adult comedy with no VFX or bells and whistles, but little things like that still irk me, and the weak audio system didn’t improve my experience either.

Theaters absolutely need to get it together.
Everyone is hoping someone else will notify the theater of a problem because they don't want to be the one to miss something.

Theaters need a button or something you can push to notify them of a problem (I know you can do this with dine-in theaters, but the rest leave the audience fairly helpless).

Exactly why I'll get up and go say something - never count on someone else to do something for you. I've had this happen a couple of times now

3D customers are ready for problems. There are 5 or 6 of us heading to the lobby the instant something happens. Plus it gets you an extra ticket in these parts.

They need to bring back ushers.

I wasn't aware of the price lately since I haven't purchased a concession in well over a year. I was going to treat myself the other night until I saw that a small popcorn was $7.50. I made some when I got home and watched another movie.

Went to see Doctor Sleep and the screen was broken (wouldn't expand to the correct ratio as the sides of it were screwed). Had to wait a bit longer until the next viewing in a different screen room since I refused to see it on a broken screen in the wrong ratio.

Just more reasons why I barely go to the theater anymore. I’ll do Star Wars this time around but that’s it. The home experience is like mostly way better in every way possible. The selling point of watching the movie with other people doesn’t carry much weight to me. They’re strangers. What do I care? I’ll watch it at home with friends and/or family. Same thing but I know the people I’m sharing the experience with.

Plus KILLER OLED picture quality and my set has awesome 3D too.

Perhaps the theater I saw Motherless Brooklyn was listening to Norton's complaints: I don't think I've ever seen a brighter movie on a standard theater screen. Motherless Brooklyn would lose so much impact on a crappy dim screen too.
