It's literally the exact same encode for video and English DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio as the Euro disc, just with a North American language selection instead e.g. the French and German audio tracks have been swapped out for a Spanish track.

I'm sure though the English subs for the Russian spoken language is burned in on the US release. Hope someone can clarify.

The bitrates are identical right down to the last kilobit. Doesn't mean that one can't have the burnt-in subs though, they could've reeled off two separate encodes (one with subs, one without) with the exact same parameters.

Is it worth buying? In my opinion, no. The existing Blu-ray's PQ was mediocre at best and I somehow doubt Lionsgate has gone through the trouble of remastering the film for this UHD "upgrade". The studio is mostly coasting through these reissues with very little to no effort just so they can say "we're supporting 4K". I practically stopped buying LG UHDs because of this.

It's £13.73 at the moment and I'd rather have the burnt in subs but was wondering whether it would likely come with a slip.

Agreed on titles that Lionsgate does themselves but Studio Canal did this one. Anything they get from Studio Canal will be better than a prior BD release.

The underlying transfers for the most part seem excellent and high effort. So, I don't know if it's "coasting" as much as just sheer ignorance on the encoding side. But, I am just speculating. I have zero clue what is happening behind the scenes.

With the Rambo UHD BDs, I have to admit - I might prefer the remastered BDs because of the encoding being better. They also don't seem like the typical SDR to HDR conversion messes we see with the other studios although I need to spend more time with them. Sh*tty encoding really stands out to me. Does the Red Heat (U.S. version) contain a remastered BD?

American Psycho and Apocalypse Now and Halloween and Evil Dead have rather lovely new UHD presentations on Lionsgate's behalf, their stuff isn't all upscales or filmout shite. And, unlike StudioCanal, they know how to ****ing encode stuff properly for UHD!! If only Lionsgate were doing their own encodes of StudioCanal's lush new transfers
