Default Dolby Vision / HDR 10+

Hello,
I am new to the 4K community and recently got a Panasonic UB820 4K player.

I am curious about what the Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ settings on the player are for and when to have them on or off.

Thank you,
Dan

Ok cool, I'll give it a look, thank you!

But one quick question though: on my player there are settings to turn DV or HDR10+ on or off. Should I leave them on at all times or should I only have them on when watching 4K Blu-rays?

Ultra HD Blu-ray (4K) Discs and High Dynamic Range (HDR) for Dummies

As for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, your TV must be able to display them or it will be presented as HDR10. I believe that there is no TV available in the US that will display both.

Got it, thank you!
Do you recommend, however, having the option on the player for Dolby Vision or HDR10+ on or off?

It has become more of a social meeting point for two members here.

So, my TV just got updated to HDR10+. It already has DV..... just wondering what will put ouy better quality on my TV.... Ive noticed DV is pretty dark compared to standard HDR. Wonder what HDR10+ will look like on my set

The way I understand it works is that the TV will automatically switch into the appropriate mode (DV/HRD10+) upon decoding the metadata of the content you are watching.

For more information on the difference between DV and HDR10+ you can brush up on it here:

Most threads for individual uhd releases have much more to do with actual hdr than the hdr dedicated thread.
