Stardust has been done, but if I were them, I'd look to put it out at the same time as Coraline hits Blu

so sometimes in the next 4 months or so, or maybe they are keeping Coraline for a holliday release on BD?

Speaking of Coraline, if anyone hasn't yet seen it in a RealD theatre, do yourselves a favour and check it out!

I have often theorized that being the only digital screen between NYC and DC (counting their suburbs), the digital screen gets rented out, instead of given to the most deserving film

There have been some inexplicable choices with it in the past. Neither Wall-E or Rataouille were in there for example.

Jeff, I'm really confused as to why the re-release of xmen 3 is listed as only having a 5.1 DTS-HDMA audio track when the first release had a 6.1 DTS-HDMA ES audio track.

Why would they do this and wouldn't that be considered a step back in the audio?

I really wouldn't worry about it, that kind of information, especially when it deviates from the norm is often wrong

Thanks, I thought about that, but didn't think Paramount would hold out for a Laika release with Focus Feature distributing(aren't they part of Warner?).

Either way, Jonas bros 2nd week made about 2.8 million and Coraline 5th week(same week) made about 3.25 million. Good move to kick Coraline off the 3D screens for Jonas Bros.

I'm enjoying the average quality level of their recent output (in filmic terms, that is, if not video presentation quality).

Default Paramount...seriously?

Jeff,

I read the Rumor Mill update. So, if I have this right, Paramount themselves is possibly going to release Braveheart, Forrest Gump, and Titanic (this last one was mentioned as a good possibility in previous Rumor Mill updates for very late in 2009) all in one year? I remember when those would hit one per year in August/Sept back in the days of DVD (1999 Titanic, 2000 Braveheart, 2001 Gump).

I'm not complaining, but those are some really big titles to be putting out in one year. I guess I'm just kind of interested in your opinion of the logic behind this move by Paramount. I don't even put Gladiator on there because that's one where Paramount is just distributing on behalf of Dreamworks. But that title will be welcome too.

Well, I think we said that Paramount and Universal were fighting to NOT be in last place when they emerged from the format war

I'd say Paramount has gotten majorly aggressive, hoping to pull away. Their catalog masters seem to be in a lot better shape than a lot of Uni's evergreens, and from all appearances they're taking advantage of that fact

Any moves on Braveheart or Titanic or Gladiator, remember that they're owned by Fox (BH and Titanic) and Universal overseas, and both of them are leaning to do them for their customers, so Paramount would be a fool not to follow them and share production costs on the transfer, compression, and any new extras that would be produced.

I agree with you that Paramount is making a major push to pump out a lot of catalog titles in large batches at a time and I look forward to picking all of them up in due time.

I would assume Universal is working hard on remastering many of the hd-dvd titles that were subpar am I correct? They are releasing one or two catalog titles here and there but nothing along the lines of Paramount. Would it be a safe bet to say that Universal will start pumping out catalog titles in larger bunches later this year?

Hadn't thought of that. Makes complete sense to me now. Thanks for the response.

This is all great news. I'm in for Braveheart (as you know ), Gladiator, and Forrest Gump. If Titanic makes it, I'll get that too.

Now, we just need Spielberg to green light a few Universal classics for this year.

Gees, I forgot about Paramount and Lucasfilm also releasing Indiana Jones in Q4. Man, this is going to be a great year.

Probably. 4 best picture winners, including the biggest movie of all time, are pretty big deals.
