Great jacket art. Beautiful slipcase. Love the inclusion of a separate soundtrack CD.

Unfortunately I just received my UK release a couple weeks back, and even that was something I was kind of hesitant to pop for since I've only gotten one viewing out of the original blu.

Being region free has generally been an overwhelming positive- but stuff like this is happening with greater frequency and it's getting really frustrating.

That slipcover is fantastic!

The disc looks pretty well stacked with bonuses, too. As far as I can tell, it ports most of the bonus features from the UK disc. The interview with Linda Hayden and featurette with Jeremy Dyson and Mark Gatiss don't appear to be on the UK disc but also aren't marked as new in Severin's stats, which I'd expect them to be if they were.

The Dyson and Gatiss interview is from the old UK DVD. I think the interview with Hayden was on the original Odeon Blu, but for some reason wasn't ported over for the remastered one.

Looking forward to finally getting my hands on this. I've had the original UK blu for years and years and have been really curious to see how this stacks up to what I have. I dont know that I'll be grabbing this tonight or tomorrow, but once the holiday shopping season is over it will be a priority for sure.

Unfortunately, Severin is only offering it during their Black Friday sale. Once it's over on Monday, that's it. It won't be available again.

This release has been talked about for years, there is no way they won't sell some other edition after Black Friday. Future releases may lack a soundtrack cd or slipcover but this is a title with some actual notoriety unlike the other offerings and so o cant believe they'd restrict sales of it.

I bought the Screenbound limited edition (4000 copies) which was released in the U.K. in June 2019. it's a 4K restoration and it's absolutely flawless! It's got a cool die-cut slipcover as well. If you really want a great transfer of this film, you can't go wrong with this release! It has a somewhat longer list of extras than the U.S. release, but it DOES NOT include the CD soundtrack (which is available separately). That's no biggie for me.

As for this 2019 Black Friday release (??) from Severin, it looks good, but my experience with Severin has not been good. IMO many of their releases have had problems with print damage and other imperfections. Still, it is awesome that this film is finally getting it's first American release. But a 4K restoration does not always guarantee a pristine release. Just check out Scream Factory's 4K scan of the original color timing of Dracula (1979). The most recent comments over on that official thread is just one example!

I post these comments not to necessarily discourage from buying the Severin release. I only want those who are real fans of this film to know, it you already don't, that there is a sure-fire alternative! Especially if the Severin release is limited to only Black Friday! Although I agree with TripleHBK that this is highly unlikely. But don't count on those great slipcovers or CD soundtrack after then.

I would expect this release to be using the exact same 4K master as the Screenbound release with the difference coming from the encode, which Severin have proved can be very solid in the past - in fact many felt Severin's The Changeling had a more robust encode than Second Sight, and that was authored by the mighty David Mackenzie himself... so never rule out Severin sight unseen!

That is a an assumption and I hope you're right! I may have missed some of those so called Severin releases that "have proven to be very solid in the past" but there have been many that have not. "The Changeling" is a newer movie, but some reviews on Amazon.com aren't thrilled with Severin's release and in some cases with the AUDIO as well as the PQ.

My worst experience was with a film called the "Horror Express" that starred Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. It was released in late 2011. And it was horrible! Although it had been in the PD for many years, I think Severin saw it as 1080p money maker. But it was filled with print damage and even an actual film splice! Then in early 2019, Arrow came out with their 2K scan release and it was perfect!

I'm still waiting for Arrow or another company (probably not Shout/Scream) to release a better transfer of "The Changeling." I could.go on, but I think you get my drift. I do not depend on Severin releasing too many quality Blu-rays.

Sorry, that's your lame interpretation! I'm just trying to provide information that might help others to benefit from my experiences!

I never said Severin releases "have proven to be solid in the past", I said the encoding on Severin's releases have proven to be solid in the past, there's a big difference there. If they use the same master as Screenbound - and why wouldn't they, it's been advertised as a 4K restoration - then it just comes down to the encoding, unless Severin somehow screw something up. That was the point I was making, the mateials are thee for anyone to do a good release of BoSC, they just need to make sure they slap it all on a disc correctly.

I stand corrected on the encoding issue, but you can't be sure that the Severin release is sourced from the Screenbound release.

$41 total was a bit more than I would normally be willing to spend for a Blu-ray, but I bit my lip and snagged a copy last night. Stacked with bonus features, a beautiful slipcover and the soundtrack CD, I'd hate to miss out on it.

That's a steep price, but it well be worth it if Severin comes through with their "new" 4K scan.

I have the Screenbound release as well but to be honest if Severin didn't add the CD and slipcover with that gorgeous artwork I wouldn't have double dipped. The encoding/picture quality has me a little worried but they are hit or miss when it comes to that.

Yeesh,
of course he can, this has been publicly confirmed.

It is the same 4K master,
Severin has performed some color work on it, so it may even look better than the UK Blu.

It is from the same restoration and has already been reviewed by Mondo Digital
