Couldn't find anything on the internet, where did you hear this?

Lol Mann really is preventing this title from getting a legit release huh? Personally I think the movie is terrible, I’ve tried to watch it 3 times and I just cannot sit through it. Still surprising that it hasn’t had a release considering its cult status. Maybe SF with that Paramount deal? Probably still a shot in the dark, though.

The widescreen cinematography, set design and soundtrack in this film are absolutely stunning, so it would be awesome on blu ray! There's a unique atmosphere in "The Keep"...

This has been on my wish list for a while...it’s a shame Mann doesn’t want this getting the proper release it deserves. The widescreen Laserdisc still goes for over $100.

I caught this on UK TV about five years ago - I'm a big Tangerine Dream fan. It's a mess and a lousy adaptation of a decent book, but the music is so amazing. Not least the adaptation of a certain classic UK Christmas song...

If they decide on doing a Blu-ray I will definitely import it.

Is there an HD scan in existence? The transfer on UK TV looks like a laserdisc.

Just picked up a copy and did a flick through and the picture quality looks good for a DVD - a also have a small TV so truth be told most things look pretty good.

The back cover states the DVD is region free and that it is NTSC. JB HiFi is currently having a 30% off sale so if anyone it thinking of buying it now is the time.

Lolwut? I thought the reason it was only released on DVD to begin with was because Paramount didn't have a HD master at the ready?

Just finished watching the Australian DVD. It's a decent transfer, very very few signs of print damage. Its a little soft and dark too.

Though most disappointing for me personally is that I didn't like it nearly as much as I did when I saw it back in the cinema in 1984. My partner who had never seen the film basically thought it was rubbish but I reminded him that during that late 70's early 80's period lots of films were made with original stories that felt so fresh and new because nothing like tham have ever seen before.

I was still captivated by the film, and love the music by Tangerine Dream but it didn't match my big screen experience.

Anyway, if it gets upgraded to Blu Ray I'd buy it in a heart beat but the DVD will suffice for now.

Watched the Australian DVD release and was pleased with the video quality. The audio was a little soft, had trouble hearing the dialogue in some scenes.

Can't complain for $13.99 AUD.

The widescreen Laserdisc still goes for around a $100. We need this on Blu!

The Keep was never released on DVD, and I doubt very much it'll be released on Blu-ray. There is a some controversy surrounding the lack of the DVD release, possibly the copyrights to Tangerine Dreams soundtrack, and the director's dislike for the movie.

I have heard that Mann is not a fan of this film. If it didn't even get a DVD release then I agree that a Blu-ray release is super slim.

Apart from not reading the thread and the 2 dvd copies mentioned you mean?

It's out 4:3 and Widescreen, and it's on Netflix.

It's a Mann and Paramount issue, the head at the time re-cut it and his reaction inspired his wife to make them bury it for good.
Or that was the word, maybe the doc coming out will clarify this all.
