Fox Set to Renew Blu-ray Commitment, Announce Future Release Plans

Quote:
After months of silence, Fox Home Entertainment is planning to issue an announcement later today renewing its support for the Blu-ray format and the studio's upcoming release plans.

The move comes after this morning's shocking revelation that Paramount and DreamWorks have switched allegiances exclusively to rival HD DVD going forward, news which has left those on all sides of the format war blind-sided.

We've since received official confirmation from Fox today that in response to Paramount's announcement, they are currently fast-tracking a press releasing reiterating their exclusive support for Blu-ray, as well as further details on future release plans.

Though Fox (who also distributes MGM titles) was one of the early and most vocal major studio backers of Blu-ray, they studio has largely stepped out of the high-def sweepstakes for the past several months. Neither Fox nor MGM has released nor announced a single Blu-ray title on the format since 'Hoosiers' in early March. They also cancelled a huge slate of planned winter high-def releases, including such hits as 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith,' 'From Hell' and 'Me, Myself & Irene,' which have yet to be rescheduled.

That's basically all we've got at the moment, but we at least it's a shot over the ramparts--

So, uh, how's that "Fox boycott" coming along in the other Blu fanboy camps, guys?...

We'll have to see, but announcing their new releases would be a good start.

Too little, too late. They should have put their money where their mouth is months ago instead of leaving a gaping hole in the Blu-Ray release lists. Now HD-DVD has enough support to continue a war until both formats are dead.

Well they could announce Star Wars on Blu-ray only. That wouldn't be considered "TOO LITTLE". I know it's only wishful thinking though.

Better to see the Fox release than do nothing at all. I'm glad someone in the BDA decided to get a little angry and not lie down. Fox can release a good movie every day of the week to counter anything Paramount could release.

I'm bummed about Transformers, and some catalogue titles, but I have enough going on in my life right now that my movie buying habit has been curtailed.

I need a new Mac (got that MS)?

Pay off a new TV.

Kill some crediit cards.

Build a patio next summer.

I'm good to go. Paramount..repeating the DIVX mistake all over again.

Aliens really needs to be one of the announced titles from fox, that being said no matter what I will continue to support blu ray and only buy blu ray movies. Nothing will get me buying HD-DVD, I will go back to standard DVD before supporing HD-DVD
