I was beginning to watch this last night and I was noticing that the audio was out of sync with the picture at the very beginning and then when I toggled between the English descriptive track and back to the English mono track it somehow fixed itself - what's up with that? is that a faulty disc pressing or was the receiver doing something wonky?

I had the same audio sync issue when I watched it and a toggling through the languages fixed it. Weird right?

I feel like I'm the only person who has never had to do the HDMI cable changes, outside of annoyance with connectors that get finicky. I've recently been swapping out of cables from 2005, not because of quality but rather because I have to reach behind the rack and wiggle them because they lose connection.

Same. I've got some HDMI cables that are literally 10 years old which have zero problems squirting 4K60 @ 12-bit 4:2:2 down the pipe. And the one I use with my current Panasonic UB820 player is the no-brand one that came with the UB900.

The colorization of this film is quite old. New colorization techniques look quite stunning when using a newly-remastered source combined with new colorization methods. The original Lost in Space unaired pilot was released colorized as an extra with the new Series blu-ray, and it looks incredible. |

It is obvious. It is obvious that you still make no sense.
If the 4k edition offers no improvements over the blu-ray edition, there is no reason to buy it, on sale or even second hand. It would instead make sense to buy the blu-ray edition on sale or second hand. ![]() |

The reason would be to be able to use our 4K setup more often and actively support the 4K disc industry. Other classics were released in 4K HDR like Schindler's List where the uptick in details is quiet obvious as well as shadow layers depth. So why not encourage people to spend the extra bucks on this?

So, you "truly recommend" that people buy the 4K edition, "if someone didn't own it yet", in order to "support the 4K disc industry" despite your claim that "the 4K HDR adds nothing/zero/nada to this film that the bluray doesn't already." ![]() ![]() In your first reply to me you advised that people wait for a sale, or that they even buy this 4K edition "second hand." How is spending the least amount possible really supporting "the 4K disc industry?" Waiting for clearance level pricing does not motivate the studios to release more films on the 4K disc format. Now all of a sudden you are encouraging people to "spend the extra bucks on this" right after telling us that we should pay as little as we can for it, even to buy it used, and that we should not buy it at all if we already own this film on blu-ray. ![]() If showing love to the 4K disc format is your goal, you should be encouraging people to buy it now, not that they wait for a big price drop. If supporting the 4K disc format is oh so important to you, you should be truly recommending that they purchase the 4K edition even if they already own the blu-ray. Purchasing second hand, as you advised in your first reply to me, does not support the 4K disc format as the studios make nothing from such purchases. In summary then, we should, according to you, spend the extra money and buy this 4K release even though it offers no improvements over the blu-ray in order to show our support for the 4K disc industry. Unless we already own it on blu-ray, that is, in which case we should not buy it at all which somehow also demonstrates our support. Yet we should also should pay as little as possible when buying it because when the studios earn as little as possible that really motivates them to release more films on 4K disc. We should even buy it used because then the studios earn exactly squat from the purchase and earning nothing really stokes their enthusiasm to release more product. Yeah, you're a real champion for the 4K disc format alright. ![]() Last edited by Vilya; 12-14-2019 at 09:35 PM. |

Has anyone compared the disc to digital version? I watched the iTunes version tonight and at times the grain looked a little managed. Is that also case with the disc?
Edit: on close inspection the iTunes version looks nearly identical to the disc. Grain is not as heavy as I would expect. https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=13...35&i=4&l=0&a=0 Last edited by kristoffer; 12-14-2019 at 08:37 PM. |

Yes, the restoration used a little bit to retain some consistency across the different sources. I have no issue with DNR used in this manner, this is what it should be used for, a tool to manually tweak and not a heavy blanket use.
However, MP4 at lower bitrates like iTunes will be smoothing out grain further. The caps you link to show plenty of grain left vs the older master which was significantly more processed. |

There has been some 'management' on this restoration and no-one's saying otherwise, but to my eyes it's been used more to balance out the numerous opticals and dupe sections rather than obliterate what's there on the negative, which looks utterly gorgeous IMO. |

Interested to get the disc now after the reviews. Last year we bought the vudu 4K Version but it looked really flat and washed out. The black bars on the side were dark grey. Seems like a gamma error or something. The 1080p hd amazon prime stream looks much better even if lower Rez

I haven’t watched a movie in my collection since end of October. Watched yesterday and a very solid release. DV has really hit its stride now. Highlights weren’t aggressive. I really didn’t see any black crush either.
