Where does it say that? And what sense does it make to waste six discs (across the original saga) when those features could be compiled onto one or two discs.

Sounds like waste to me.

The writing is terrible for several reasons: It not only gives a ridiculous amount of screentime towards b-plots but at least one of them actively contradicts its own moral (Poe/Holdo). It doesn't have a consistent tone and wildly oscillates between being a serious drama to a wacky and family-fun adventure comedy. For one character (Finn), it just completely scraps his established character and forces him to literally just repeat his arc from the previous movie. Many plot beats are essentially a repeat of V the way VII repeats IV. Any opportunity for compelling narratives that arise from the couple of legitimately interesting "subversive" story decisions is immediately taken off the table (Snoke dies, but nothing really changes whatsoever in Kylo or Rey because of it).

The pacing is a huge issue too - it's completely sluggish and lacks energy for most of the movie, which is fine if it's using that time to adequately develop the characters, but it doesn't.

The direction is atrocious. Things that should be majestic and impactful, like Leia using the Force for the first time onscreen, induce laughter. The fight scenes have no dramatic tension whatsoever and enemies are easily-defeated (Finn yelling "hey." to Phasma before hitting her and she randomly falls through the floor lol).

All of this is off the top of my head.

You mean this? Which is essentially every criticism of a Lucas directed Star Wars film....

Which is Rians point. The whole film is a critique, because there is literally nothing he could creatively do to take the franchise in a new direction after JJ. So Rian is stuck playing George Lucas, but he doesn't want to be......

It's just like Luke doesn't want to be Luke Skywalker. Yet everyone expects him to be this Jedi Master.

And those two side characters I wanted nothing to do with. Send them on a subplot back to a greedy corporation planet, wink wink.

The Amazon.co.uk product description states...

Quote:
Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Box Set - Limited Edition (27 discs) featuring all 9 Saga movies on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and Bonus discs (Blu-ray) for every movie in a special collector's set.
I am hoping they have put together brand new feature length documentaries for Episodes 1-6 like those found on the Episode 7 and 8 bonus discs along with deleted scenes and other bits and pieces from previous releases.

Serious question: I've seen so many critiques of the Leia scene in TLJ and I've never understood them. I have *plenty* of issues with TLJ, but that was never one of them. To me, it's a "Force pull", like any other scene where a Jedi pulls something to themselves, but Leia got creative and pulled herself to the ship instead.

So, if you were part of the creative team and the scene had to be that Leia gets blown into space and rescues herself, how would you have done it?

So Rian shackled by FA, bored by the same derivative direction said ok George. Let's honestly explore the hero archetypes, and your world of Star Wars in which they inhabit, if I can't make my own Star Wars.

It's like Leone when he was bored of Westerns, feeling he was tied to convention just went f**k it. And went anti matter on the genre with Once Upon A Time In The West. Having Fonda playing aganist his usual paragon of justice type. Which can't be understood today how shocking it was seeing him gun down that family in cold blood. And people cry over Luke tossing his lightsabre? Lol

So those criticisms you make are atchually all part of Rian analysing Lucas legacy. Poor direction, stiff and clunky dialogue ect ect. Sacrificing his golden boy Luke as means to allow greater creative freedom for the future.

The sub plot with Rose and Finn I do wonder if it's all Rian. But I just find it funny it got past etheir way. Your ethnic minority characters going to a greedy planet thats totally not an allegory for Disney where children and animals are exploited.
TLJ never had to be about Luke. That was a poor overarching design decision. This was a new trilogy about Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren. RJ did nothing to say "f all that", in fact he went straight back to the original well.

What you don't understand is that so many viewers don't buy into the "subversion" or "deconstruction" narrative.

If this set contains a bonus discs for each movie it will be interesting to see what they include on the Bonus discs for TFA and TLJ. (Assuming the movie discs are the same disc as in the singular releases) Also there might exclude some bonus features, specifically ones pertaining to the whole saga, from previous releases so if you like special features hold on to your previous blu-rays.

Most likely they'll just reissue TFA and TLJ.

My absolute dream set would be new 4K masters (so not the current garbage ones) of:

Episodes I-VI (all cuts, but obviously UOT is most important)
Rogue One
Holiday Special
Both Ewok movies

It’ll never, ever happen, but yeah.

Keep everything the same until she starts to float towards the ship, then cut back to Finn/Poe/Band of Merry Rebels seeing her float towards the ship, then cut back to her as she just approaches the door. So basically, the two main shots of her flying towards the ship and through the rubble are significantly shortened.

I think the point of contention for most people (even though they rarely articulate it) isn't Leia using Force powers, but how it's depicted. It just looks kinda silly, and I say that as someone who doesn't mind it (I did initially, but not so much on subsequent viewings).

I didn't say there were of outstanding picture quality. He--, most of the "special interests" DVDs have some of the worst picture quality out there. But what can I do? They're not putting them out on Blu-ray or 4K UHD. So it's either deal with the bad, bad quality or don't watch at all. Guess what? I choose to watch because something sometimes is better than nothing.

I guess I kinda get that, but I also feel that if it were cut that way, without showing Leia's progress, then we'd have the opposite issue of people saying "what? She just magically made it back to the ship?!" To me, showing the distance she traveled helped sell the fact that she is a powerful Force user, even if she's not a full time Jedi.

Maybe a different music cue could have been used or something to help sell it differently, but this wasn't a problem scene for me.

I expect the Blu-rays of The Force Awaken and The Last Jedi to be exactly the same as the ones already released and in the case of TFA I would expect the re-issued discs with audio commentary and additional extras.

"It's bad on purpose" is certainly the most interesting defense of TLJ I've heard yet.

This thread is hard to stay on top of because everyone wants to sneak in their hot takes, but has this been announced formally yet?

Also any truth to the rumor from bits that there will be a BB exclusive package and a general release?
