Most of the complaints I've seen are people going in expecting hard sci-fi and sound logic. The entire film feels like a bad/warped dream and isn't logical, knowing that you may enjoy it more.

So, in other words, I'll be watching my life on screen?

Gotcha.

The Star Wars Prequel trilogy is a better trilogy than the new one. It’s at least one mans vision from start to finish and not some mess that is basically two directors with completely different visions. I like Force Awakens more than any of the prequels, but damn TLJ and Rise of Skywalker hurt the trilogy.

I watched it today, not too bad but there are several moments I wondered if the believability was intentionally goofy. Like, is there a deeper meaning here I'm not seeing. The son, the father and the search for intelligent life alludes to the Trinity. Faith is mentioned several times, to the point where it seems like it isn't just thrown in there. I thought maybe the baboon was representative of consciousness experiencing itself outside of the body, I remember he says something about feeling like he's a witness to himself, and that there would be stages of this throughout the trip. It was around this time I realized my interpretations were all over the place and I was just trying to make the story mean more than it does. Still enjoyed it, though.

Anyway, don't know if this is unpopular, but the 76 remake of King Kong is one putrid piece of celluloid shit.

Can't speak for anyone else, but it's unpopular with me, I can say that much.

I think in 10 years time the prequel trilogy will be thought of more highly than the sequel trilogy.

I can say without hyperbole that The Rise of Skywalker was a thousand times better than The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens combined.

Heh

What's interesting is that I've actually given this thought over the years, having seen it a few times since I did upon its initial release. I've come to a couple of conclusions.

1) I think it was the first film I saw where I was old enough -- barely, as I was 6 at the time -- for the emotional ending to both be able to effect me and for me to be able to truly comprehend what was happening. At least, it's the first one I remember. But the fact that I remember the impact it had on me at all is in its own way testament to the power it had. I have trouble remembering this morning. The fact that I kind of remember the experience of watching a movie in a dark theater over 40 years ago is ... well, I don't know what it is exactly. But it must have had some serious effect on me.

2) Jessica Lange. I'm not trying to make a joke, either. I was obviously too young to comprehend anything I may or may not have been feeling while watching the film and watching Jessica, but something was definitely happening there. I recall having many thoughts about her after seeing the movie. And I remember seeing it on cable, or VHS, or both, years later and understanding the effect she had on me at least a little better.

The bottom line is, I don't think I was the same person leaving that movie theater as I was going in; and I definitely was not the same movie viewer. So ever since then, more than 40 years ago, the film has had a special place in my heart. I just can't find any real method of judging it with any sort of neutrality. It's just not possible. And if it hasn't happened in over 4 decades ....

So you're saying it gave you an erection when you were six, therefore it was good?

I'm pretty sure I said neither of those things.

Hellboy (2019) is not as bad as most people say. I enjoyed it as one of those mindless fun entertaining films even though I do understand the Del Toro originals have better storytelling.

To be fair though that's how it was marketed. Plus the technological aspect of the movie is firmly rooted in the real world in a way that something like Sunshine isn't.

Maybe I would find Ad Astra better on a rewatch but it just went nowhere for me first time round. I'm just not sure what the point of it was?

I had significantly more fun and less disappointment watching Cats than I did watching The Rise of Skywalker. I am being serious.

I really wanted to love it but it just didn't do it for me. I feel like there's a really wicked fantasy-horror in there but the pieces aren't in the right places.
