Just wondering if anyone has this set and can confirm if english subs are available for each film?

big fan of love+pop and it's been a long time since i've seen ritual, so i'm pretty interested in this release.

cdjapan and amazon.co.jp have no mention of subtitles as far as i can tell

According to the blurb from VAP (the disc's producer) on the Amazon listing, all three of the films have optional English subs.

No mention of any subs for the extras, though.

The Amazon description does mention subtitles. It says "各作品とも英語字幕収録" under the main content, which appears to mean that each film has English subtitles. I think only some of the special features have subtitles, like the first feature on Disc 3 has subtitles.

Does Love & Pop's PQ look good? It says 1080i upscale instead of 1080p. So does that mean that it has those weird jagged edges? So is it just the same as the dvd quality essentially?

Does Ritual's PQ look good??

Thanks in advance to you or anyone else who can answer these questions. The set is very pricey, and I would like more info before committing.

PQ of Love & Pop isn‘t the best, often looks like a very early dvd. Can‘t say much about Ritual, because I haven‘t watched it yet.

It is interlaced, which means you'll see something like this unless your player of choice is able to deinterlace the picture:

The SR Ban DVD suffers from chroma noise, which the BD thankfully is free from. Other than that, yes, they are the same detail-wise. The material seems to be taken directly from the original DV tapes and there isn't any more you can do with that.

This uses a restored 4K master and it would've looked fantastic if the encode wasn't plagued by compressed black levels and a ton of banding. It IS a huge upgrade compared to the DVD though. If you're able to set the black levels manually, and possibly deband, you should be able to make do. But it is costly indeed, I don't know if I would've bought the set had I known this beforehand.


Ironically enough, the third, lesser, film in this set is the one that also looks the best.

Of course, The PQ is best on the "worst" film and looks less than optimal on the better films. (I guess in Love & Pop's case, it's as good as it'll ever look?)

I want to buy this, but I can't justify the price for it. If I didn't have about 40 other releases on my "want to buy" list, I would probably go for it. Maybe one day.

Quick question,
the individual movie pages only indicate region A, but the box set page also mentions region B. Do these movies play on region B players as well?

Yes my copy plays the movies in my region B player

The reason it's like that is because someone marked the bundle page as working with Region B, but no one did the same for the individual pages. That's why those pages are marked as "Region A (B, C untested)".
