#1
You go into your eye doctor’s office for a check-up and can read all the letters on the 20/20 line and not just that but also a couple letters on the next line lower down (20/15 line) on the vision chart. How is/or should your visual acuity be recorded by the tech? (kinda refer back to LordoftheRings pic of Santa leaving the party with the pole dancers and do the math)

#2
Who (what specific person) came up with the number 2020 for BT.2020 - https://www.itu.int/rec/R-REC-BT.2020/en while in the respective ITU working group back in the day?
Nobody able to take a shot at #1 or #2? Geez, close to 16,000 views for this thread yesterday and it’s not like I’m quizzing folks on deep into the weeds concepts regarding vision or BT. 2020, e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post13534833

For #2, I can see if you weren’t a member of the ITU working group or had a liaison with them, you wouldn’t know who proposed to call the Rec – ‘2020’, but with all the emphasis on the video websites on resolution like with 8K tvs and such, I would expect that people would/should want to know what their actual visual acuity is when tested because it is quite common in the real world, although the tech may not disclose it unless you ask, that people can either read a letter or two on the next lower line down, or for that matter, can’t correctly identify all the letters on the 20/20 line.

I asked because someone once told me that hard boiled eggs were actually proven good for hangovers....contain some important amino acid? to help detox.

I like most soups and spicy Sichuan Chinese (one of our favorite places to dine years, err decades back when we lived in Philly was Chung Hing off of City Ave.), regardless, my hangover is over now as I rode today, enjoyably. Next up as far as potential headaches go is I’m just wondering if anything I deal with at all will hiccup on February 29, 2020 (leap day).

Default 4K HDR monitor supplied with a colorimeter

Asus ProArt PA32UCX: 4K HDR monitor - Mini-LED, 1152 local dimming zones, HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision - supplied with a X-Rite i1 Display Pro colorimeter for an automated calibration with the Asus ProArt Calibration software.
https://www.asus.com/Monitors/ProArt-PA32UCX/
https://www.amazon.fr/ASUS-ProArt-PA...hi&sr=8-2&th=1

"A calibrated and profiled display is a critical element in an efficient digital workflow for color perfectionists. However, the colors on displays decay over time so wide gamut displays are susceptible to color deviation.
ASUS now introduces a new solution, ASUS ProArt™ Calibration Technology which provides precise, consistent, and spectacular colors in the professional monitor. It’s the easy way to recalibrate your display to restore its brightness and color consistency, whether it's for your desktop, laptop or Mac.

The ASUS ProArt™ Calibration Technology saves all color parameter profiles on the IC chips within the monitor instead of the PC, so that you can connect your monitor to different devices without changing any settings or color shift. Meanwhile it also reduces the signal distortion between the IC & the display. It’s the easy way to recalibrate your display to restore your display's brightness and color consistency."

BASE: Packaged Media Helps Up 2019 U.K. Home Entertainment Retail Market 9.5%

To paraphrase Mark Twain, “the reports of [the death of packaged media] are greatly exaggerated” — in the United Kingdom anyway.

Sales of DVD, Blu-ray Disc, 4K UHD Blu-ray and electronic sellthrough movies and TV shows in the world’s No. 2 home entertainment market generated more than Ł891 million ($1.2 billion) in 2019, according to year-end data compiled by the British Association for Screen Entertainment (BASE) and culled from statistics originating within the Official Charts Co. and Futuresource Consulting.

About 54% of the 2019 transactional revenue came from packaged media, underlining that where content ownership is concerned, the disc is still the preferred choice for many consumers. In fact, 42% of consumers who made a physical transaction within the past 12 months did so to add to a collection, 43% bought to give as a gift, and 46% bought so they could re-watch on multiple occasions.

The likes of HMV need to still move to a botique model if they are to survive long term though.

^ He replies to Question #1,
20/20 + 2
which is the correct answer.

I notice a lot of pro and con debate as far as purchasing a TV in the 8K discussion thread. The bottom line seems rather basic to me. If one is not in need (other than to have a new toy to play with) don't buy one.

On the other hand, if one needs a new TV and the choice is between going 4K or 8K then best buy one of those 8K puppies Robert Zohn has in his showroom because although at first glance the cost of a top of the line 8K TV may seem a bit much compared to a 4K, that initial cost will amoritize over the years you own the product without much pain to your wallet.

At the HDMI input, it is recommended to turn on some form of wide color gamut support at the port. After doing doing a factory reset, something I do after every firmware update. I had forgotten to turn on Full UHD color, but while watching some DV in particular, I noticed that the overall image quality dropped. Detail, color, sharpness or pristine picture. Some color appeared to be over sataurated.

The EOTF is tracked accurately, but Full UHD color appears to be crushing black detail.

Has there ever been a discussion on whether or not a wide color gamut setting at the HDMI port is needed or a requirement for Dolby Vision playback?

In order to be considered 20/15 you have to read 3 letters correctly in the 20/15 row.

And for more fun, by the time a person is 60, a person loses about 10% of brightness sight due to cataracts. IOW, what a person in their 30s can see as 1000 nits, would look like 900 nits to a 60 year old. By 70, it's a 15% reduction. Color perception also changes, and colors will look more faded. And sharpness acuity will also get worse, so for people over 50, they just may need 8K to get a 4K effect. We will all suffer from cataracts.

LordoftheRings, what happened to your Gangnam style YouTube video? as I see this thread is fast approaching the 5 million viewership milestone.

Until then, to keep chipmunk poetry aficionados like Waboman entertained, there’s this –

Wabo, you’ve got to come up with our official drink for breaking the 5 mill barrier in record time,
perhaps the Jet Fuel Mule?

In those particular folks with senile cataracts perhaps more important is to have a consumer TV which meets the minimum peak luminance benchmark of the little known Rec BT. 2100 -
https://www.itu.int/rec/R-REC-BT.2100-2-201807-I/en

*a common early complaint with those suffering cloudy lens(es) is having difficulty reading the road signs while driving at night

You noticed that. I deleted it as I already posted the top video of all times (6.6 billion views).
And correct ... 4,999,289 views. I thought we would be there yesterday, today is ok.

* I'm reading a good book ...

That's the next Martin Scorsese's film, starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio.
And back to the big screen this time (no Netflix).
That should be a dynamite flick, based on true events (Google it).
