Considering it played in HFR almost nowhere, it wasn't HFR that steered audiences away.

yup only 14 theaters across the USA showed it in 120 fps (and in 120fps 2K)…but even if the movie got excellent reviews I doubt the HFR would be a major factor

The HFR on this is nice. I've seen the UHD disc and it looks great.

It's the movie that's garbage. I found myself skipping through it frequently.

Good demo material, though.

Well, it did play in 60 fps in most IMAX theaters, so it's not like HFR was that unavailable to watch. That said, no, I don't think HFR was a major factor in this movie's failure at the box office either. This movie was always going to flop, HFR or not.

I don't know about 'always going to flop'...Ang Lee is pretty highly regarded and Will Smith might not be the draw he once was but he's still pretty popular

It came out the week after Joker. This movie was doomed to fail.

Audiences barely have access to HFR and it's not like the movies made with it have been masterpieces.

It seems like Ang Lee just can't find the right material to match his technical creativity. This one could've been it, but it was a dusty old screenplay which still felt like it was set 20 years ago. I still enjoyed this movie for what it is, even if the performances are kinda stilted, and really enjoy the technical presentation.

I hope he gets to finally make Thrilla In Manila in HFR. Gemini Man feels to me like an excuse for Ang to experiment some more with the HFR and VFX with young Junior. It's not a film worthy of him but he gets to work out the kinks some more, learn more about the format, etc. That said, I hope he goes back to film at some point, although he's really passionate about the whole HFR endeavor. (which I dig but not over 24 fps)

For some reason, that scene is super funky, I think it's partly the lighting and perhaps them not having enough time to polish that but otherwise, the work is extremely impressive.

I use dejudder or trumotion at max level on movies in 60fps like this and Billy Lynn to mimic 120fps

If they want HFR to catch on, it would have been wise to make it available on digital and not just disc.

Will be purchasing this title mostly for the video presentation. Also just ordered the Billy Lynn 4K disc to see HFR in action.

Billy Lynn was an instant classic. I own it in both 4K HFR and 3D.

If there was ever a shot or a scene that called for straight head replacement, that was it! Our brains can handle humans talking to CG aliens like Maz Kanata or Yoda, but bring in CG Tarkin or CG Fresh Prince, and we are barely paying attention to anything but the imperfections.

or add CG to the faces of humans to make them look like cats, and one's head simply explodes from incomprehension

If by instant classic you mean pretty mediocre then yes, absolutely.

Bingo.

He himself stated that even if he doesn't crack the formula for using HFR for immersive storytelling, at some point, someone will.

I've yet to personally see anything that would make me want to watch a lot of films in HFR, but I am always willing to keep an open mind.

Perhaps Cameron's idea of how to use it would bring perfect balance between 24fps/60fps.
