Default Genndy Tartakovsky's "Primal"

I'm a big fan of Tartakovsky. Loved Samurai Jack and Clone Wars.

This new show of his looks amazing:

Episode 1 is online, and it’s obvious that commercial breaks belong nowhere near this masterpiece. Forget the DVR, watch it here:

They should edit this together as a 100 minute movie & do one of those "one night only" theatrical events.

(Also, where my Samurai Jack movie?)

With the entire pitch animatics available on adult swim, this is begging for a blu Ray where all the episodes are edited into the 125 minute masterpiece it should be.

I thought this was a tremendous achievement in filmmaking. But I didn't like how it reached it's conclusion. The ending is as it should be given the world it takes place in, but the fantasy element of this episode puts a damper on what up to this point has felt like unlike anything there has been in American animation.

This got an Oscar-qualifying run so a feature-length cut, or at least one without credits between episodes, already exists. So hopefully that'll get a release.

The anthology version of this, "Primal: Tales of Savagery" is due to be released digitally on 1/7. Probably won't be a disc though unless it gets the Oscar nom and is released by the Warner Archive

Just watched the Anthology version and I suggest you all skip it. It entirely omits the final episode, which drives home the point of the entire story. Also the transitions between episodes could have been smoother.

Primal is what brought my attention to Genndy Tartakovsky's work. I was delighted to read in a Cartoon Brew interview that the story will continue later this year with another 5 episodes. I would bet that there might be a disc release when the whole story is told.

I am currently binging Samurai Jack and at the end of season 4 and loving it. I cannot wait to start the most recent season 5. I had seen most of the Star Wars: Clone Wars 15 years ago or so and would like to see a proper release again of that at some point.

This sucks to hear, because I was looking forward to watching it as a film. Is it just the 22 minute episodes stitched together, or is there any new content that bridges it?

It's just the episodes. When they are over they just cut to the title card of the next episode without any sort of transition

So if I haven't watched this before is the anthology version a good way to watch it?

From the comments I take it I'd need to watch the anthology and then the final episode as well?

Just go ahead and binge the separate episodes in one sitting. The opening and closing credits serve as a nice transition between episodes as they give you a minute to take it all in and get ready for the next story. Plus, if you're planning to buy, the "Series" is slightly cheaper than the movie

Primal is one of the most interesting new animated properties I've seen in the last two decades. Wonderful visual storytelling taking full advantage of the animated medium.

Do what exactly is the deal with this series? Is it done or not? Are they going to have more episodes? Will the series ever come out on Blu?
