With all of the obscure and cult films that could use rescuing by Vinegar Syndrome, Wingnut Films would be the least exciting for me. Peter Jackson is more than capable of overseeing the proper restoration and distribution of his early films for home video. Seems like a waste of VS' uncanny gift of breathing new life into forgotten cult classics.

Pretty sure John or Ryan have already stated that they don't have the PJ films.
Would be awesome though. And as much as I would love to see VS release them, it will probably end up being Scream Factory or Arrow Video, or maybe even Wellgo USA, as those seem to be the more mainstream labels out there. Last edited by Worship.my.wreck; 01-08-2020 at 05:06 AM. |

Side note, anyone wish they did more soundtracks? I just got a couple and plan on buying the rest, Sex World and Maybe Sensual Encounters. Also plan on picking up the Liquid Sky LP from Mondo soon. Got Def by Temptation CD soundtrack and Psychos in Love 7in lp from ebay couple of weeks ago. IDK thought they were kinda cool. ![]() |

![]() ![]() When he is given an antique mirror by a homeless man on the street, Keyes Terry, a photographer played by Ross Partridge (Stranger Things), takes it back to his artist studio loft building that is also occupied by his girlfriend, played by Lala Sloatman (Pump Up the Volume), a painter played by Julia Nickson (Rambo: First Blood Part II), a sculptor played by Richard Roundtree (Shaft), a landlord played by David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London), and the landlord's wife, played by Barbara Howard (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter). Unfortunately for these protagonists, the mirror, which comes from an Amityville, New York house where a man murdered his entire family with a shotgun, is cursed by a demonic spirit that soon begins to work its dark magic on their minds. As Keyes watches his friends die one by one under terrifyingly random circumstances, he discovers that his own past is interconnected with the Amityville location. The 1993 straight-to-video sequel, Amityville: A New Generation, which was directed by John Murlowski, repeats the basic plot framework of its two predecessors, Amityville: The Evil Escapes (1989) and Amityville: It's About Time (1992), with the notion of a possessed artifact from the iconic haunted house wreaking havoc on unsuspecting victims in different locations. As with many direct-to-video features of the era, this one has the look and tone of a Cinemax late night movie of the same time period, but the cinematography, courtesy of none other than Wally Pfister (The Dark Knight, Inception), provides for a few eerie surprises. This movie is so...it's so...1990s. The hairstyles, the clothing, the new age goth worldbeat music played by one character in her painting studio, and, finally, the film title itself all seem singularly intent on exuding this feel. The fact that Terry O'Quinn (Millennium, The X-Files) plays a police detective who figures heavily into the proceedings adds to the distinct time capsule charm of this particular franchise installment. The well of inspiration in the Amityville franchise seems to be running dry this time around, but I do like how the narrative takes us back to the mystery of the real-life murders that actually did take place on 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville. I find it amusing that none of the directors of these sequels seem to have watched the first film, since important details from the expository story are depicted so differently from one sequel to another. Be on the lookout for the always-amazing Lin Shaye (Insidious) as a mental hospital employee. This Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray, the third one in Amityville: The Cursed Collection, has a video presentation that is practically beyond reproach, save for a couple of sequences where mild print damage can be seen. Short interviews with Murlowski and co-writer Christopher DeFaria are fun and engaging, but the centerpiece extra is the audio commentary track from Murlowski. |

This box set rules.
![]() Soon after newlyweds Bill and Claire, played by Robin Thomas (Summer School) and Starr Andreeff (Falcon Crest), move into their newly-built country home with Bill’s two children and Claire’s son from previous marriages, they find an elaborately-detailed dollhouse in an old storage building and decide to give it to Bill’s young daughter for her birthday. Unfortunately for this family, the dollhouse is an exact replica of an infamous haunted house in Amityville, New York, and it has some diabolically insidious plans in store for all of them. The 1996 horror sequel, Amityville Dollhouse, directed by Steve White, is only ephemerally linked to the events in the 1979 original film, The Amityville Horror, but it nonetheless manages to be one of the better sequels in the franchise, thanks to solid character development and a reliance on nuanced interactions to achieve its unnerving scares. The shaky dynamics and inherent resentments within the family, because of the distrust of the two sets of children toward the new spouses of their respective parents, play pivotal roles in the narrative, because the demonic entities inside the dollhouse are able to feed off of the resultant fears and insecurities. It helps that the visuals of the titular miniature home are spectacularly filmed. Spiders, a giant mouse, a zombie corpse, an unpredictable gas fireplace, two spiritually-inclined relatives, and a sleazy subplot all come together to make this Amityville installment far more entertaining than its low budget merits. This was a fine way to cap off the first generation Amityville franchise films that were created before the 2005 remake of the original movie. This Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray, the fourth and final disc of Amityville: The Cursed Collection, ends the set off with a bang, thanks to a brilliant technical presentation and to interviews with the director and crew. |

I watched Punk Vacation last night and I haven't seen it mentioned much lately so here goes... I thought it was a pretty solid b-action flick. There wasn't much budget but the movie didn't feel stale or slow like some low budget films do. It was very hard to figure out who the movie wanted me to think should be the good guy since time was split about evenly between sides of the central conflict. Also everyone basically does something to make them evil (except maybe 1 character who is theoretically a main he's really more of a sidekick). I say all of that but it doesn't negatively impact my enjoyment of the movie.
Overall it was a fun midnight movie worth a watch! |
