$5 for the 4k DV version on iTunes (includes all 3 cuts).

Missed out on disk for $10 and I wanted the 4k digital anyways, so when it comes around next time for cheap on disk I'll pick it up.

Hey folks, I've only realised that the 6 disc version of the film comes with a 4K Disc of the theatrical and redux versions of the film, are these in any other release or just the 6 disc version?

I'm based in Ireland so region B but I have the blus already so not pushed if I have to buy the US release.

Got home yesterday, and apparently the 6-disc edition was already delivered. Can't wait to rewatch the film again. This is going to be good!

Can anyone provide any insight into how the standard BDs in this set fare overall? I've read that there were some compression issues. Basically, I don't have a 4K player and I don't know that I ever will, but I want to have Apocalypse Now with the new cut in addition to all the previous ones. I don't mind buying this set, but I'd basically own it for the BDs, so I'd like to know whether this is the way to go (rather than just forgoing the final cut and picking up the FDE).

The old discs are a well-encoded inferior transfer. The new ones are a poorly encoded superior transfer. You might as well get the 6-disc edition, it has more extras and original theatrical audio on the theatrical cut BD. The compression issues aren't all that noticeable in motion, especially on a 1080p display.

Thanks for the insight. Given the choice between a well-encoded inferior transfer (which is still HD) and a poorly encoded superior transfer, I'd generally probably go with the former, but the inclusion of the new cut, plus the extras and the original theatrical audio, might tip the scale in favor the 4K set.

The new 4k set has an improved transfer of Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse. which is a doc as good as the movie itself. The encoding seems better than the 1080p movies.

Anyone else hear a pop or blip in the sound at the 2:05:49 mark of the Theatrical Cut 4k disc? I am playing it on a Panasonic UB820 with firmware 1.60 (latest). I hear it on my speakers through a Denon 3808CI AV Receiver and on my tv speakers as well (LG C8). I guess it's an issue with the branching? So far that is the only repeatable audio glitch I have encountered. I do not hear it during that same scene on the Redux version 4k (same disc that has the theatrical cut).

It could be your receiver. It's not exactly the newest kid on the block. There have been revisions to DTS and Dolby's audio codec decoding processes over the years.

Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I was thinking as well, so I removed the receiver from the equation by playing the audio directly from the Panny 820 to my TV speakers. I still heard the pop. I don't have another 4k disc player to spin it up in.

One thing I did notice however that took me out of the film was at the 1:45 mark when they meet up with the French group, the sky is filled with tiny flashes that look like lightening. Is this something in my setup or is that really there in the content? Watching on a C6 OLED via XBOX One.
This is such a shame. Francis duped people into thinking the Final Cut was superior and it's going to be a lot of people's first time experience.

The theatrical cut is radically different and contains one of the most creepiest endings I've ever seen. It's just something you feel in your gut

Hopefully you can watch it again and enjoy the theatrical but too bad that the first impression was on a cut that ruins the pacing, tone, ending and everything that made the movie a masterpiece.

Someone else on another forum confirmed the blip/pop I’m hearing on the Atmos track for both the 4K disc and the Blu-Ray at the 2:05:49 mark of the theatrical cut when played on a Panny 820. It is not on the “original” DD audio track that’s only on the Blu-ray.

If this is an error on the Atmos track then I guess it was missed. Seems like a lot of people/reviewers only watched The Final Cut and called it a day.

I just tested it on my LG UP870 and could hear it too. I don't have a Denon receiver, like you, I have an Onkyo. Obviously, I heard it when I watched the theatrical a couple of months ago, but I just didn't think much about it. I'm thinking it's the disc.

Thanks for checking! Sounds like a definite f***up on the Atmos track then. I suspected as much since it’s present on Blu-Ray too.

This was a blind buy... Again. Lol.
Which version is the best to watch for an initial viewing?
