Default What 5 Blu-rays would you recommend a newcomer starts his collection with?

If this has been done to death, I apologize. Just curious what your favorites are, and what are "must owns" for any self-respecting BD enthusiast.

The Dark Knight (IMAX sequences)
Wall•E (perfect animation/touching film)
Baraka (breathtaking cinematography/pristine images)
3:10 to Yuma (great audio)
Shawshank Redemption (great film - not that all the above aren't)

But then again, I don't know what sort of films you personally like.

IMO, I think you should get your 5 favorite movies (if available on Blu-ray), but mine are:

Shawshank Redemption
Dark Knight
Batman Begins
King Kong
Pinocchio or Wall-E

Movies you like and are anxious to see again with better PQ and AQ. I'd start there, at least I did.

GREAT suggestions. wow, i didn't think i could come up with 5 such diverse movies. but there ya go. not only are these 5 very diverse (Action / Animation / **can't categorize Baraka** / Western / Drama) but they're each near the top in each genre.

only thing i might add would be Sci-Fi: 2001 if you like it, if not Blade Runner.

Yes it is different then the DVD copy. The Blu version is far superior and changes aspect ratios.

Just a few that i would recommend

1. TDK
2. I Robot
3. Iron Man
4. Underworld
5. Planet Earth
6. Speed Racer
7. Patriot
8. Serenity

Why? That's all anybody ever sells over on the trading forum. You can probably get all those for like $40.
