Yep - the thing that sucks is that if you remove Canto Bight it easily adds a star to the films overall rating & improves the pacing. Chapter Skip is yer friend here though, no doubt.
I keep hearing everyone say that about the Canto Bright sequence. Canto Bright is the least of The Last Jedi's problems! Where the film errors in every sense of the word is with Luke! Hamill gave us warnings in interview after interview after interview about this as he disagreed with everything Johnson had written as he clearly had absolutely no understanding of the character whatsoever. To the point where Luke Skywalker in no way shape or form even closely resembles the savior of the galaxy we saw in Return of the Jedi! An idealist who always sees the good in everyone! He even saved his father who cut off his hand and apart from the Emperor is the most evil man in the galaxy. He willingly risks his own life in the process and would have been killed if not for Anakin saving his son. Yet in TLJ is actually considers murdering his own nephew? In the words of Hamill "not my Luke"! Is this an evil twin or as Hamill liked to call the character he portrayed in TLJ "Jake Skywalker" again as stated in numerous interviews.

The absolutely beautiful moment at the end of The Force Awakens on Ahch-To where Rey is handing Luke his lightsaber and the perfect ending to an excellent start to the franchise. Then we get to The Last Jedi where that wonderful moment is absolutely destroyed in order to subvert expectations! Hamill who has stated "Jedi's never quit! He would take a year or two off and then try to right the wrongs of his character." Instead has turned off his telepathic ability to communicate with his sister (which Hamill has stated he couldn't figure out either) and turns his back on her, Rey and the Resistance.

In TFA Harrison Ford as Han Solo is given his hero moment and multiple of them before his death in the film. In TLJ Mark Hamill is never given this. He never leaves the damn island. The lightsaber battle on Crait is quite frankly the weakest in the entire nine film saga. The legendary Jedi is never given a decent lightsaber battle in the sequel trilogy. That is insane! The Force projection lightsaber battles in TROS were much better.

No one knows the character of Luke Skywalker better than Mark Hamill aside from George Lucas. In Rian Johnson's arrogance he wouldn't even bother to listen to him with his I know better mentality. No Rian you clearly don't and one of the most important aspects of storytelling is staying true to who the character is!

I am going to avoid any other criticism of the film even though it threw away much of what had been set in motion before the literal passing of the torch (lightsaber) by writer Lawrence Kasdan (writer of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark). The film really doesn't go anywhere in it's 152 minute runtime and the Resistance and the First Order are in the same place at the end of the film as they were in the beginning. In the end with Hamill you can tell he is done with the series and has stated so in many interviews as his character was so mistreated. He really had nothing more than a glorified cameo in the sequel trilogy and wanted to be killed off in episode 9 again coming straight from his mouth. With the passing of Carrie Fischer in 2016 having Luke lead the Resistance in the final episode may have been the better option.

On a side note I will admit the supposed script for Episode 9: Duel of the Fates from Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connelly sounds much better than what we got from Chris Terrio in The Rise of Skywalker. Apparently Kathleen Kennedy got nervous after The Book of Henry was released which Trevorrow didn't even write it appears took a knee jerk reaction to his film even though he killed with Jurassic World. Much like The Last Jedi the evidence was in the script. Whether The Book of Henry failed or not it appeared she had a superb end to the series in her hand. Yet too foolish to realize it.

The script is by far the most important part in any movie and without a good story you are dead in the water. She as the head of Lucasfilm from the moment she read the script to The Last Jedi she should have seen the backlash coming a mile away. This wouldn't take audience reaction to prove. This film was going to divide audiences plain and simple and especially fans who grew up on the first trilogy with their in depth understanding of the universe and the main characters. The audience score of 43% on rottentomatoes.com more than proves my point which is the lowest in the series. A similar poll was on IGN with 25,000 voters. The Last Jedi is the least favorite film in the series. https://www.ign.com/articles/2020/01...om-ign-readers

In the end yes we clearly need a more competent person running Lucasfilm as she clearly doesn't know what she wants and has fired director after director with no clear view of what she wants from the Star Wars Universe. The sequel trilogy is uneven at best and Lucas clearly gave her an outline for episodes 7-9 and states as much which was ignored.

On this note, I would like to add that...you know what, never mind.

Just let it go, man. It's no use and surely nothing can be done about it anymore. What's done is done. Just hold on dearly to whatever SW movies you truly love, relive those memories and enjoy them. For me, that would be the PT and OT, but I also happen to like Rogue One and Solo a lot. That's my Star Wars.

Solo is a much better film than people give it credit for and again written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jake. Also there was an open boycott on the film after The Last Jedi as fans were so p!$$ed which didn't help. The film was clearly set up for a sequel and I really would have liked to have seen it! My main gripe is the cinematography of the film with it's crazy retro 1970's washed out look. Blacks are horrible, the film is without color and the lighting is beyond dim. Bradford Young specializes in low light cinematography. Both my 3D and UHD version look very dull. On the UHD Vudu version or 4K disc Dolby Vision (Bright) which I rarely use really helps here. On my Oppo 203 you can use Dolby Vision processing for all HDR titles. With the 3D version as any 3D title you need light to make it work effectively.

That's just the way it looks and I'm actually fine with it, because I think the muted visuals fit the movie somehow. In its own way, and going by the intended look, the UHD looks actually quite lovely IMO. I also own the 3D Blu-ray, but the UHD is definitely my preferred way of watching this.

Solo (and to a lesser extent Rogue One) is something I can really appreciate out of the Disney SW movies, therefore I wished they would have solely concentrated on doing origin/side stories instead of messing around doing sequels to the OT.

I'm likely to wait for either trilogy sets or a repackaged saga set. So far, this foray into 4k for Star Wars is pretty lackluster. I don't want the giant massive book set. And, I've never had these as individual releases on blu-ray. If I go that route, it's going to take up about double the room on my shelf and shelf space is at a premium.

If there is one thing I can count on is that Disney and Lucasfilm will do multiple repackages of this over the years. If you don't like the packaging and art here, just wait a year or two. There will be something new. In the meantime, you can watch your blus or just stream 4k on D+. These are NOT essential releases at this time.
Agree. Im in the same boat. Not buying a massive set. I'll get the original trilogy when its released as a trilogy set, maybe the sequel trilogy down the road. prob wont even bother with the prequels

Bradford's work for 'A Most Violent Year' actually was quite the opposite, bright, sharp, colors with punch and saturation; for 'Solo' he did a complete 360 and it didn't help the movie in any way - the Dolby Vision version actually improves the image ever so slightly

I don't think there would be anything to "improve" upon with this kind of look. But just out of curiosity, how did the DV version improve the image and I take it this is the streaming version then?

Entitled to have the unscrewed with version they grew up with?

Spielberg allows the original E.T. to be released and so does Coppola and his Apocalypse Now.

Lucas is just a frickin' brat.

So 4K77 looks pretty amazing on my computer...on my 4K tv, not so much. Partially that's due to needing to fix the contrast settings (but it looks good on everything else, so I'm not too keen on adjusting it just for two movie files.

Also, there is more detail on the Disney+ versions than these, in some scenes not by much, in some by quite a bit. These are still stellar versions in their own right and better than the UOT has ever (and may ever look) but I guess I was a little expecting these to look as good as they did on my computer at 2K.
