well I took my first step out of the format war today, picked up "The Rundown" & "Van Helsing" on HDDVD today.

I am pretty confident that Universal will hold out for quite some time, i'll buy up only universal titles for the xbox360 add on, and everything else in Blu Ray.

My list for Universal HDDVD titles I want so far:

Pitch Black
Riddick
Unleashed
JarHead
Fast & Furious
2 fast 2 furious
tokyo drift
King Kong
Ray
SeaBiscuit
Spygame
Traffic
U-571
Break up

pretty signifigant for just one studio, so it makes the Approx $200 HDDVD investment worth it IMO, not to mention i'm sure a few weinstein flicks will end up on this list.

I told you i'm not unreasonable, I'm not a "Fanboi"
I just want Great HD, and spread my dollar as far as possible! I will continue majority of my support behind Blu Ray, but it's like...I already have an xbox360...Blu Ray doesn't have Universal...they have quite a selection of flicks I want, so...what the hell!!!
I just am scared i'm gonna end up with like 30-40 flicks from each side and still be waiting to watch them on something!

I'm going crazy over here staring at HD discs...and then having to throw on a DVD to tide me over!

It's like craving some good pizza and then having to eat a pepperoni Hot pocket to try and supress the craving, it's just not cutting it!!!!

Yeah, if anyone is waiting on Universal BDs coming out with better PQ than the HD DVDs... Very futile wait. If you have the sockets on your TV, and the cash, go for it.

LOL, staring at all those HD goodies without being able to play them has got to be nerve racking. When the big day comes that you have the players you'll need to take a week or so off of work to catch up.

Exactly right. I must say: Brian has surprised me in this thread as well.

Somehow I have 20 HD-DVDs right now and they're all good movies. Most of them are movies that Brian cited, just by happenstance.

The underlying theme to all of this is, of course: Any of us that have made a move like this have absolutely no patience whatsoever. Impulsive, even.

"Instant gratification" ring a bell, Brian?

Hmmm, yeah looks like Universal joining the BDA was just playful Blu-ray fancy. Oh well.

Anyhow, I gotta think that Universal is in a prime position to get whatever they want in terms of royalties, membership, etc. within the BDA if they were to float the notion that they would be interested in releasing on the Blu-ray format.

However, I think it is important for them not to wait too long, as the BDA at a certain point may just give them the finger and watch them get cut out of any potential royalty profits. Who knows, maybe we're already beyond that point...?

I think one studio is enough for most people to say..."WHo Cares"

For me, I'm Uber about this stuff...My wife refers to me as "MR. I have to have everything"

So I couldn't just let my favorite universal titles sit on the shelf at Best Buy over $200 beans!

I have a good friend who is just like you Brian. He needs to buy every movie he is even remotely interested in. He got into DVD in 1999 and has since racked up a collection of over 4000 titles. He's got hundreds of discs he hasn't watched but that hasn't slowed down his purchasing in the slightest. Your lengthly list suggests to me that you may end up going down this same path. Practically the only subject my friend ever talks about is DVD these days. He used to be much more well rounded. We need to be careful with HD, I'm already becoming addicted. Lord knows I've got a handful of movies I wouldn't have bought if they were in SD.

You and me both... I've already got 25 BD movies and I have no intention on slowing down on my purchasing...

I never got quite to 4,000 titles on DVD...i got to around 400.
I just buy the movies I really like, or somewhat like. There are plenty of titles in my DVD collection that won't get re-bought on HD, on the other hand theres a ton I will re-buy

As I grow older, there seems to be less and less things I enjoy, this is one thing I absolutely love...so I say Cheers and hold your discs up for a toast!

At my peak of DVD purchasing I had over 900 of them. I sold the vast majority of them over three years ago in anticipation of BD. Am I going to rebuy all of them? I certainly hadn't planned on it. I thought I'd buy about 200 or so of them in HD. But like I said, I've already got a handful of titles I didn't plan on buying. So yes, a toast to my fellow addicts. This thing hasn't even begun to get out of control but it will.
