Which is what I was discussing, not "George Lucas and Darth JJ ruined my childhood!"

You know, the actual release, what will be included in it, the cost, etc. Pay attention and try harder if you are going to deal in snark.

4K becoming niche? I wouldn't count on that, or that i don't see it that way. Even though there is less films on 4K, i see 4k as something that is easily available in stores and a general consumer product the same as a Blu-Ray is, and after a few months or however long, the prices also drop like a stone like Blu-Ray's do.

I wouldn't put 4K in the same category as a lazerdisc, in my experience i didnt know anybody with a lazerdisc player, or bought lazerdiscs. That's probably why lazerdiscs are now something as niche, whereas 4K is much more of a general consumer product that most people are aware of. So i dont see it becoming some special thing.
"Financially sensible" means spending money on things that matter. If Star Wars matters enough, you'll spend the money. DVD has created a sense of entitlement that people deserve movies for $5-10, at most. We don't.

4k is a niche. Laserdisc was a niche.

If you had friends who were older and had a passion for movies in the 80's or 90's, they had one. I got mine at 15. Electronics stores sold the players and the discs, as well as Tower Records and many other stores.

I'm selling the disks not to make money but because I don't need something hanging around that I'll never use.
I'll have the 4k disks, no need to have a second set of Blu-ray movies. I'll even be selling the. Complete saga set. Minus the bonus disks if those aren't ported over.

I sell the unwanted crap from all the videos I buy.
The duplicate UHD disks get sold
The Blu-rays in a 4k set get sold
The DVDs in a Blu-ray set get sold
The digital code gets sold

And the crazy thing is people try to tell you what you can and can't do with these releases. I got hit on Ebay one time for selling digital codes because "unbundling" violates their terms of service. IMO, if you buy a product, you own everything in the package from the case/artwork, to the discs, to the digital codes. Don't include them if studios want to act like people shouldn't be able to do what they want with them.

Assuming that those were the master reels, yeah they are gone for good.
The majority of shots that were physically removed from the conformed negative were done on CRI stock which had faded terribly in 20 years, but they kept all the trims and another 20 years later they could use digital technology to reimbibe the colour onto these faded elements using the separation masters, just like Universal did with their stunning restoration of Spartacus. The OG 8-perf 35mm negative for that was basically dead, it had faded beyond all printable hope which is why the 1991 restoration was done by using the separation masters and printing them to 65mm. Jump ahead 25 years and they accessed the OG neg, using those same separations to digitally massage the colour back into place.

For Star Wars they still have the OG trims, and the bulk of the newly conformed negatives is still camera negative anyway, they still have separation masters, they still have IPs and prints. They've even got the original VFX elements so if they wanted to do a TNG and digitally recomposite the original VFX then they could do so. There are no barriers here in terms of resources or time or money, it's down to one man's wishes.

I’m not one of those fans that whinges and complains about the special editions. Lots of what they did to them were a positive. I’ll take what we get, but I would love them as they were one day.

Do we think this will sell out in the same fashion the Infinity Saga did? Or will these be in stock and then go on sale? What are people thinking?

If this was like the Infinity Saga it would already be sold out

I, too, want to know this. I just want the bonus discs, which I am assuming have special features that are new to this release?

In Canada, all our "limited edition" releases sell out before release. I can't afford the duties to import this from elsewhere.

Fans gave George Lucas so much grief for so many years that he sold the entire franchise to Disney instead of making the sequels himself.

It is only fitting that he gets to give a giant FU to the ridiculous UOT crowd on his way out.

I for one love The Complete Saga version that came out on Blu-ray a few years ago.

We have no idea what extras will be included on the Episode 1-6 discs but I am hoping for a compilation of previously released content from the DVDs and BDs along with some new features.

The retail price for the Complete saga is $140 for 9 discs.

This is 3 times the number of discs for less than double.

Enter the people who will ***** about how they don't need extra features.
4k is a premium and you're getting a ton of extras.

This entire conversation is beyond ridiculous.

I’ll be very curious to see how quickly this sells out.

Having just spent the same amount on the GOT CE release that doesn’t appear to be selling out anytime soon, I’m almost tempted to hold off and wait for a price drop.

But seeing as how this is Star Wars In 4K, that maybe a foolish decision.

It depends on how many they printed.

...could end up being like the Infinity Saga Collection.

Unless I'm mistaken, there's no indication this is a limited set, like the Infinity Saga was limited to 3500 I think? So I'd be pretty confident it will have enough stock.

I preordered just in case (and well, its SW, no way I'm not buying it), but I cant imagine BB not having a ton of these.

As long as we are asking for things that will never happen like the OOT, I would love for the 3D versions of the PT to be released.

And a high chance the majority of those extras are just gonna be the same that are on the previous discs.

And even if they did any new extras for the Prequel trilogy and original trilogy, (altho i can't see what or how), it would probably just be the same stories and information just in a newly edited package.

Dude, it's Lucasfilm: they're just as likely to ignore the content on the previous discs and port over what was on the previous previous release

These are my exact same thoughts. For now, like others, I have a pre-order in just in case.

I'm holding onto my pre-order until more info is made known, like: whether this set is limited in number; and if not, then whether Best Buy only has it has an exclusive for a limited time after which it will be available everywhere (which would certainly help with the price); whether the Blu-ray discs in the set are the new transfers or whether they're just the old discs repackaged; and what the exact packaging will be like.

Edited to add: I do think it's interesting that they are not re-releasing The Last Jedi as a standalone release, (likely) so the packaging-OCD-folks like me will feel compelled to get the box since they we wouldn't be able to stand it with Eps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 all matching but NOT Ep 8. Haha!!
