I actually preferred the Theatrical Cuts mostly.

I didn't like Bilbo's introduction to the Shire over Gandalf's and over all, I enjoyed the pacing of the film's better. Most of the "extra's" weren't that important to the movies - and having read the books many times, didn't fill in any info I didn't already know. (I felt the only major part they should have included was the full gift giving part).

The part I wanted them to include and they didn't was the final conflict in the shire with Saruman. Oh well, I'm not waiting for the extendeds either way.

That would've been the perfect ending for the trilogy imo...

Same here, as it would have been very faithful to the book, but you're talking an extra hour on top of an already unusually long film. But I hear you. I'd be willing to watch a 5-6 hour film version of each book.

Like the others before me, I totally agree. I was really bummed about that.

They could have shortened some of the battle sequences to fit it in but hindsight is always perfect.....

Shorten the battle sequences???!!!

Again in hindsight, they could have released the extended versions as the theatrical cuts, included the better ending, and split the entire thing into four releases instead of three... The titles wouldn't have been as convenient, but if you can split the Hobbit in two parts, why not LOTR I through LOTR IV?

Or maybe not.

You would think in the current economic conditions that the studies would want to bolster profit and releasing these titles would definitely do that...

Wow, LOTR on Blu in early December! My most anticipated release ever for sure...gee, I wonder if this will be a money-maker lol? If I could only own 3 Blus, these would be the ones. Great great news.

You have nothing to worry about. Blu-ray is going to be the dominant format for a very very very long time.

Yeah like the next 5 years.... then its TB discs...

Hopefully all the LOTR will come out this year, but according to that flyer advert in Warner Bros Blu discs, just the Fellowship is coming out this year. I think the following 2 movies will be out by next year.

That's just my guess....

The extra material on the theatrical versions is most likely the same as the once on the DVD

Blu-ray's lifespan is going to be much much much longer than five years, I promise you. It's going to dominate the market for years upon years upon years.

I just wish they wouldn't sit around and wait on the extended editions of Lord of the Rings.
