We don't want another January horror movie with an F Cinemascore!
Cinemascores are insane. Mother! has an F smh.

THE VVITCH and HEREDITARY received C- and D+ CinemaScores respectively.

So yeah, to hell with CinemaScore.

Today's audiences want jump scare fest crap like Conjuring 2, they don't want horror movies where they have to be patient and have the scares come organically or from atmosphere.

Grudge and Turning had nothing but jump scares but audiences hated both.

You don't know how CinemaScore works.

People are polled and give grades to the movies they watch during opening night. CinemaScore just collects info and data.

People are the ones giving the scores.

Mother got an F because it was promoted poorly and marketing was misleading. Trailer hinted at a horror flick, but the final movie was basically allegory. Besides, the baby's death obviously didn't get well with general audiences.

I remember a couple people walking out when Jen was getting punched and kicked to a pulp.

People disliked these movies...At least, those who rushed to see it during opening nights.

Is that hard to understand? That doesn't mean you can't like or love these same movies.

A24 movies are not meant for mainstream audiences. Im still surprised MidSommar managed to get a C+

Oh, it's not hard to understand, it's just tiring to see audiences like the same generic mainstream horror shite (with exceptions like The Devil Inside, Silent House, The Turning and The Grudge), while they dislike the indie, ambitious horror flicks. As Chaotic stated, I guess they're not for the mainstream fare.

In the end of the day, opinions are opinions.

I don't know what CinemaScore is that movie getting ( is it a wide release? ), but this definitely doesn't look like a traditional horror movie. The trailer shows a lot of crazy stuff that go beyond the Hansel & Gretel tale.

At least the trailer was honest. No misleading marketing.

Marketing was clear and focused.

They even said "from the director of Hereditary". Whoever hated Hereditary, didn't come back to see Ari Aster's second movie. Most of polled people were probably those who liked Hereditary or didn't fully hate it.

Exactly. Audiences should definitely know what to expect, an A24-esque horror flick.

Yep, very hard to understand. I'm so thankful you clarified it for me.

What you don't seem to understand is that my post was meant to be sarcastically dismissive of CinemaScore - I personally find no value in what they do.

while this is not the kind of movie I go to see in the theater, I will pick it up when the UHD is released as it looks like the perfect movie for the HT. I expect it to be, if done right, a visual/audio treat!

I know how they work.

I still don't agree with them.

The general audience is incredibly stupid.

I've yet to see any TV spots for this. I've seen plenty for Rhythm Section though, which is opening on the same weekend.

Yeah, I would say three things that lead to poor cinemascores are misleading marketing, horror movies that lack traditional scares (I think there is value in an approach that focuses just on atmosphere but clearly many audiences find it boring), and either bad or very downbeat endings (makes sense as people are being polled right after the movie ends and could leave them with a bad test).

I just gave a look at the director's previous movies. Wow, he only directed dogshit...

I'm afraid of what's gonna happen to this new movie, because it looks actualy fine. Another F CinemaScore would be bad for horror.

I mean, 3 Fs in one month would be downright hilarious.

What do you think about this new one?
