Yes, I agree!

1-2 upgrades a month is taking so long for them to upgrade all their titles. I wish they would ramp it up a little too. Or at least be transparent with us about what is being considered and what’s not being planned for an upgrade

I remember a couple years ago when they barely upgraded anything, so I am glad they increased a lot since those days. I think in many cases they're waiting for new restorations, but there are other titles thwt are real head-scratchers as to why they haven't come out yet.

Sad news, Jason Polan, the artist who did Criterion's newsletter clues, has passed away.

What would you say are some titles that should have been upgraded already to Blu-ray?

In the beginning of the Blu-Ray craze I never really thought Criterion would release as many Blu-Rays as they have. And yet, after collecting BDs for the past eleven years they never did upgrade the Sergei Eisenstein Sound Years box set. I told myself back in '09 that this is the kind of thing that would never hit BD, but considering that Strike and Battleship Potemkin had releases through KL I was really hoping Criterion would prove me wrong. They never did, and it's still my top want for an upgrade.

But I'll certainly take a Human Condition set and more Suzuki, sure.

I rather Criterion take the time and wait for the best transfer or new restoration before upgrading the title to Blu-ray rather than just releasing what they have at the moment because they aren't known for upgrading a title when it is already released on Blu-ray despite a subsequent newer restoration/transfer in existence.

Here's some. Pretty much all of these have been released internationally already, and many from quality restorations.

Thieve's Highway
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
Pickup on South Street
Onibaba
Hobson's Choice
Great Expectations
Floating Weeds
Early Summer
Mr Arkadin
The Shop on Main Street
Written on the Wind
Youth of the Beast
Salvatore Giuliano
Ashes and Diamonds
The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum
La bête humaine

Just to name a few

If you're region free, there's an an excellent edition out from Eureka's Masters of Cinema:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Youth...lu-ray/111227/

My most-wanted Suzuki upgrades from Criterion are Story of a Prostitue and Gate of Flesh.

Most especially the latter. I'd love to see its "retina-ripping Fujicolor" in HD (or, even better, on a nice HDR'd 4K). There's a French BD of it, but it's not English friendly.

That sucks. RIP Jason. Maybe that explains why this most recent New Years clue was a bit underwhelming and sparse, because the man was suffering and near death when he drew it up. When a person is close to death, their energy/imagination is no longer prevalent any longer. At that point, they are ready to move on to the next world, much like what I saw my dad go through as he died from esophageal cancer, about 1.5 years ago. He could barely breathe as his brain was shutting down. The last few days were especially tragic.

Anyway, I sure hope Criterion gets a replacement for the newsletter clues, because it was a great part of why Criterion is one of the best film companies around today.

I know everyone has their picks for what Netflix movies for Criterion to release, but I’d really like Rolling Thunder Revue just as much as The Irishman. Would be a great companion to Dont Look Back

"Rolling Thunder Revue" also features a character who is already present in the Criterion Collection. (Besides Bob Dylan.)
