I’d even argue Iron Man (while certainly know to comic fans) was a unknown or at least little known character to much of the superhero movie audience before 2008. Remember how many seemed to be doubting that as a launch of a Studio since he wasn’t a flagship character or also had doubts about giving Downey a franchise, and now the character is a global icon.
