Thank you for doing this. Does the disc have a menu, or is it like the Sony BD-Rs where there is only a pop-up menu?

Damn. This is an awesome film but I'm not sure if I want to exchange my OOP DVD for a blasted BD-R...

It's available on Vudu for Disc-To-Digital conversion. HD upgrade is $5 and you get to keep your DVD.

Given that it has TrueHD 5.1, this looks like it might have been prepped some time ago and then shelved until now. Hopefully, a UK/German release (obviously pressed) comes along with uncompressed mono and some extras.

It has a normal menu. I took snaps but they didn't show the UI.

I have only purchased a few bd-r films, all from film rise. They played fine. CDs that were CD-R have played terrible when bought from amazon. Buying Joker score from amazon looked like a bootleg, buying it from Walmart surprisingly had better finish to the disc art and book. That being said, is there a better place to buy this or does amazon burn them in their facility?

Did they ever do this one as a pressed disc?

As far as I know, no. They started going down the BD-R route, but changed their minds half way. This is the only new to Blu-ray Paramount title that is BD-R.

Bought a copy of this from Rarewaves on ebay. They had a bunch for sale when I ordered, & at that time it was backordered on wowHD/deepdiscount. It arrived yesterday, & I watched it last night. It was kinda glitchy, pausing for a second at every new chapter, though it didn't stop playing.
I bought this since I had never seen the film before, and it seems only available as a BDR everywhere, but I don't think I will ever buy another BDR.
As for the film itself, Harris & Connery are both good. I was thinking though after, that basically the Molly Macguires as depicted in the fillm were basically terrorists; and then for myself it is difficult to sympathize, especially when I think about some more modern terrorist attacks. But, after reading Wikipedia I learned that some historians question whether there actually were Molly Macguires, or if it was all faked by Pinkerton detectives in order to discredit the mine workers who were forming unions. In which case, the real individuals who were all hung were likely innocent of the crimes they were charged with.
Also, interesting to read that this was a major box office bomb at the time of its release. In the early 70's just having a big star wasn't enough, if they weren't playing a totally sympathetic character. I recently watched George Roy Hill's The Great Waldo Pepper, and it similarly fared poorly at the box office despite having a big star - Robert Redford - because his character was not a 100% nice guy.

What player do you use?
